There’s a chance of an Abbott Elementary and Always Sunny crossover thanks to Scottish Willy Wonka

As photos of the now-infamous, A.I. generated Scottish Willy Wonka popup began to roll out over the weekend, viewers lucky enough not to have been traumatized by the event in person drew dozens of conclusions about what sort of cultural touchstone the whole fiasco reminded them of. “Fyre Fest for kids” was thrown around a bunch, as was “19th century Manet painting” and “meth lab.” But for the creators of Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia—two show titles we never thought we’d put in the same sentence—it was something else entirely: inspiration.

“A lot of you are saying this feels like an episode of Sunny, but to me it feels more like an [Always Sunny] [Abbott Elementary] crossover episode,” Rob McElhenney, who created and stars as Mac in Sunny, wrote on Twitter/X on Wednesday.

Quinta Brunson, who created and stars in Abbott, agrees. “Just say the word [Rob],” she shared in an Instagram story following McElhenney’s tweet, along with a saluting emoji. “I love you guys.” Because this is (hopefully) how deals get made nowadays, McElhenney then responded in his own story, writing “the feeling is mutual, [Quinta]!”

On behalf of anyone with eyes and the ability to laugh: please, Mr. Nightman, Unknown who lives in the walls, or whatever higher power is in charge of these things, make this happen. It actually isn’t as far-fetched as it may seem. Ignoring the, er, slightly different tones of the two shows, they do both take place in Philadelphia and both air on networks owned by Disney. Maybe the gang will embark on one of their many failed attempts to pretend they’re actually good people (or more likely get some sort of court-mandated community service) and put on a similarly deranged exhibition for the Abbott kids. Dee would be the sad oompa loompa lady, Dennis would probably be Wonka, and Charlie would obviously be The Unknown. Hopefully this airs in Abbott’s usual timeslot, or else the kids would almost definitely get a small glass of beer and god knows what else instead of lemonade and a single jelly bean.

See, we didn’t even need A.I. to come up with all of that. Hopefully, the great minds behind both shows will actually do this and take it to places not even a world of pure imagination could conjure.
