Actually, Mark Ruffalo won’t be in Captain America: Brave New World

It seems Mr. Ruffalo was mistaken when he said the Hulk was returning to movie theaters

Once a reliable source of Marvel leaks, Mark Ruffalo is among the press’ best friends when it comes to scooping up spoilers that fall haphazardly from the actor’s notoriously loose lips. This time, he’s gone too far. Per Variety, despite the casting announcement Ruffalo thought he was spoiling, the Hulk will not return for another round of smash and bash in Captain America: Brave New World.

Over the weekend, Ruffalo participated in a Q&A about his storied career and his chosen art form of accidentally leaking information about unreleased Marvel movies to the press. As such, he couldn’t help himself when moderator Anne Thompson asked if he would appear in Brave New World as the Hulk. “Yeah, it’s going to be great!” Ruffalo said. Except he’s not, and it won’t be. The Hulk won’t be dropping any soma in Brave New World. Mr. Ruffalo misspoke, apparently. He meant to say “No, it’s going to be great,” not “Yeah, it’s going to be great.” Unfortunately, the whole thing is on YouTube for anyone interested in reliving the joy of learning that Hulk would appear in the next Captain America movie.

Ruffalo’s war against his various projects’ non-disclosure agreements is well documented. He spoiled the endings of both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame and live-streamed the first 20 minutes of Thor: Ragnarok from the film’s world premiere because he didn’t realize his phone was streaming from inside his pocket. It’s the kind of recurring screw-up that inspires 10-minute-long YouTube supercuts and a generation of Tom Hollands doing the same thing.

Described as a “piece of shit” by the film’s star Harrison Ford, Brave New World will be the first Captain America led by Anthony Mackie, who graduated from Falcon to Captain after Avengers: Endgame. (Though most of his training happened on The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, so be sure to read up on that for the next class.) At least he won’t have to worry about Hulk showing up and smashing his new world to bits. That is, unless the Hulk actually is in the film, and all this was just a cover for another Ruffalo-born P.R. nightmare.
