The Annecy International Animation Film Festival is running right now, hence why a higher-than-average amount of cartoon and animation news is currently percolating across the Internet. (Including, like, random reveals of long-gestating movie projects! It’s been weird.) That includes a number of reveals from Adult Swim, which had its big panel today, including news that comedy series Smiling Friends has been renewed for a third season.

Created by Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack (who also voice most of the characters), Smiling Friends feels very “old-school” Adult Swim—absurdist situations mixed with a heavy dose of irony and parody, to typically pretty funny effect. Honestly, we’re mostly just shocked to see the network throwing its support behind anything that doesn’t start with “R” and end with “ick and Morty,” and so seeing a weird, funny show like this one get continued nods of approval is just nice to see.

Meanwhile, Adult Swim also announced that it’ll soon be launching two new series: Oh My God, Yes! A Series Of Extremely Relatable Circumstances—based on the book of the same name by series creator Adele “Supreme” Williams—and Ha Ha, You Clowns, a series expansion of a series of Adult Swim shorts. The former show (which grew out of a pilot that aired last year, and which is available on Adult Swim’s web site) is a “quarter-hour, 30th-century-set comedy” that “follows three best friends in Los Angeles who collectively navigate the worlds of sex, dating, and womanhood in the year 2102"; the latter is about three very large, sweet young men and their equally large, sweet father. So, in case you were worried that Adult Swim had, like, normal-ed out recently: No such worries need be worried!
