It’s the end of the road for Aerosmith—literally. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees have announced a farewell tour, “The Peace Out Tour,” set to kick off in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 2, and wrap up on January 26 in Montreal, Quebec.

The tour—which spans 40 dates across North America—will feature the Black Crowes as an opening act. In classically high-drama, high-octane fashion, the group announced the tour with a teaser video reflecting mass unrest across the world—and cameos from Ringo Starr, Eminem, Kelly Clarkson, and more—after news breaks that Aerosmith will finally, well, peace out.

Aerosmith says, Peace Out

“It’s not goodbye it’s PEACE OUT!” the band shared in a joint statement via Instagram. “Get ready and walk this way, you’re going to get the best show of our lives.”

Comprised of singer Steven Tyler, bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer, and guitarists Joe Perry and Ray Tabano, Aerosmith was first formed back in 1970. Tabano departed the group early in their career, and was replaced by Brad Whitford ahead of Aerosmith’s debut album in 1973. Since then, the band has gone on to release 15 studio albums, the most recent of which came out over a decade ago in 2012.

As with Aerosmith’s 2022 Las Vegas residency, Kramer will not perform with the band on the farewell tour. In a separate statement, Aerosmith shares: “While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health. Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.”

Aerosmith’s last hurrah comes at a decidedly turbulent time for Tyler, who was sued in December 2022 by Julia Misley, who alleged she and Tyler had an intimate relationship that began in 1973 when she was sixteen years old. (For what it’s worth, Tyler corroborates Misley’s age, if not her identity, in his 2004 memoir Does The Noise In My Head Bother You?. In the book, Tyler describes taking a teen girl on tour and engaging with sexual activity with her, writing: “I was so in love I almost took a teen bride.”) Misley accused Tyler of sexual assault, sexual battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress; she also alleges that Tyler pressured her to have an abortion when she was 17. Tyler has denied the allegations, asserting that their relationship was consensual and he was Misley’s legal guardian at the time, affording him immunity.

    Bullshit

    Yeah, that makes it worse.

It’s weird how much of a pass rock stars of that era seem to get even after #MeToo became a thing.

      • cyrils-cashmere-sweater-vest-av says:

There were rumors they might lose their namesake roller coaster at Disney. That’s all I got.

        • mid-boss-av says:

TIL that was a thing. I can’t imagine that’s a ride that was going to live much longer anyway.

        • mckludge-av says:

They’ve been talking about that for years. I think they should have several replacements, that way they can add or remove bands as necessary. The intro video and music are clearly Aerosmith, but the other theming is generic rock.Cheap Trick would fit the grimy back alley feel of the queue.

          • cyrils-cashmere-sweater-vest-av says:

I think the rumors started again because of the allegations and because the ride is currently closed for refurbishing. Almost everything I know about Disney comes from headlines in news feeds. You click on one article and the algorithm shows you a million more. And if there’s one thing I have picked up over the years it’s that Disney can be slow (Tron ride opening in 2023?) and/or cheap (closing 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and leaving a hole in the ground for a decade).

probably a 50 year contract or something, too.

Aerosmith’s hardcore fans will dismiss the accusations, but the band’s been a joke to a lot of people for a while now, so maybe there’ll people who won’t give Tyler a pass. Let’s be real: they’re quite easy to quit. On the other hand, David Bowie, while I know he can’t answer for himself anymore, is held in such high regard that I’m not surprised most people haven’t made a reassessment of their relationship with his work given he basically has the same history.

The type of shit rock stars were doing in 1973 would be too much for a SVU episode. The stories about Led Zeppelin are truly insane. When it came to groupies it was the wild west, but I definitely wonder how the fuck Tyler ended up being someone’s guardian.ETA: The band also has two pretty noticeably different eras. Early on they were fantastic sleazy blues rock. But once they found out innuendo songs and ballads were where the money was, they dropped that history fast. The Classics Live albums are fantastic, for anyone who wants an example.

I kinda feel like anyone who was around in the 70s recognizes that society was different then and it’s good we’ve (mostly) changed since then. I can recognize that Last Child and Sweet Emotions are good songs and still think Steven Tyler is a piece of shit human.

    • harpo87-av says:

Yeah, I’d almost be interested in going to see them, but that just makes it a hard pass for me. It’s difficult to find a way to make statutory rape allegations not just corroborated but actually more disturbing, but he found a way.

“Classic” Aerosmith and the Crowes are two of my faves, but yeah, now I just feel dirty.

    • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

Not that I’m hoping for this, but is there a chance the rest of the band and management might be on the hook for this? They didn’t do the rape, obviously, but from what’s in the book, everybody knew this was happening. I think I read somewhere that the abortion was management’s idea because Steven was so out of his skull he wanted to marry her and have the baby.

    • newsom303-av says:

It really does. That’s most disgusting defense ever. “I didn’t rape her because I was her legal guardian.” Just wow.

      • igotlickfootagain-av says:

“Let the record show the defendant has entered a plea of ‘even more guilty than we originally thought, holy shit’.”

  • lattethunder-av says:

The one guy in the header pic who doesn’t look like a corpse is the one guy who’s sitting out the tour for health reasons. Huh.

    • bcfred2-av says:

Yeah he’s been the healthiest looking one for the last decade. I’m guessing he used to go apeshit on tour and decided this one might kill him.

    • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

It’s weird, Whitford is the youngest one in the band, yet looks the oldest.

    • igotlickfootagain-av says:

The rest of the band have passed through death and out the other side.

  • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

So they patched up their feud with the Crowes?

    • lattethunder-av says:

I didn’t know the Crowes had patched up their feud with the Crowes.

      • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

        Yeah, true.
Have you read Steve Gorman’s book? He put is basically the brothers Robinson cannot stand each other, but every few years they realize they’re both out of money and pull it together for the paycheck.

        • bcfred2-av says:

          The American Gallaghers!

        • lattethunder-av says:

They played the courtyard of a deli in the town where I went to college back when they were still Mr. Crowe’s Garden. Even then they looked ready to throw down at any moment. Was weird seeing them hit it big less than two years later, but also cool because they were locals.

          • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

I lost track of them after Lions, but up to that, they were great.

          • bcfred2-av says:

They decided to become a jam band, at least when playing live, which was really disappointing after the first two albums of great southern boogie.  Last time I saw them I was actively bored (granted this was a loooong time ago).

          • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

I saw them on the Furthur Festival when they were jamming. I understand that’s when Marc Ford was getting too out of it, but I remember them being pretty good.

          • bcfred2-av says:

I knew a couple of people who were a few years behind them in high school in Marietta, GA (just outside Atlanta) who had a lot of similar stories.  Saw them at house parties and tiny venues, them bam – Shake Your Money Maker made them stars.

          • lattethunder-av says:

Yep. One of the early videos would come on the TV in the dining hall and someone would yell out “I know those fuckers!” There was also a guy I knew in college, few years older than me, who went to high school with Marla Maples. Called her a homewrecker when the news broke.

  • gargsy-av says:

“It’s the end of the road for Aerosmith—literally.”

    Figuratively.

  • panthercougar-av says:

Where is the article about Willie Nelson’s two night 90th birthday concert? There were some cool performances there.

    • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

Guess he didn’t bang any little kids.

    • igotlickfootagain-av says:

One of the best clickbait links I ever saw on social media had the headline “Cher entered this artist’s tour bus and couldn’t even see through the pot smoke”, and I was like, “I don’t need to click that link, it’s obviously Willie Nelson.”

  • mckludge-av says:

Can we rename it the “Fuck Off” tour?

  • adamtrevorjackson-av says:

pretty sure they’ve been on a farewell tour since i was a baby and i turn 40 next year.

    • newsom303-av says:

Exactly what I thought when I saw the headline. Just like The Rolling Stones and Elton John. How can you go on numerous farewell tours for decades? Their fans love throwing money at them.

    • rogue-like-av says:

And The Who. And KISS. And (fill in the blank).

  • blpppt-av says:

“….Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.”Don’t worry, Steven, you guys need a steady, metronomic time keeper?Have I got somebody for you!

  • newsom303-av says:

“Tyler has denied the allegations, asserting that their relationship was consensual and he was Misley’s legal guardian at the time, affording him immunity.” Somehow he managed to come up with the most disgusting defense of pedophilia ever. Saying “It wasn’t technically rape, I was her legal guardian.” might be the most appalling defense of rape in history. Can we call it “The Fuck Off Tour” and end it by launching them into space on a one-way trip off the planet alongside Elon Musk? The industry is still filled with skeezy people, but their generation openly made songs about sleeping with minors and bragged about the number of teenage girls they slept with. All while getting those same underage women doped up before, during and after any sex they had. Also, as someone else commented, it seems like they’ve been on a farewell tour for the past 30 years.

  • rogue-like-av says:

Seeing that they are playing at UBS Arena the same weekend that Belmont race track reopens for the fall season makes me very, very happy to no longer be working at Belmont. Traffic in and out of there that day will be a dead standstill.

  • goldenb-av says:

They’re all like 900 years old anyway. Surprised they’re even a thing. Most of their popular songs were annoying anyway. What’re they gonna do the state fair, wedding, and Vegas circuit now?
