As New Mexico prosecutors decide to drop charges against Alec Baldwin in relation to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the low-budget Western Rust—and as the film begins shooting again—Baldwin himself is apparently gearing up to participate in a cinematic telling of the tragic story. This is per Variety, which reports that Baldwin is apparently cooperating with documentarian Rory Kennedy for a film focused on the tragedy of Hutchins’ death, one of at least two such projects currently circling the narrative. (Rachel Mason and producer Julee Metz, who were friends of Hutchins’, are also filming a documentary that’s focused on her point of view.) Kennedy, whose recent credits include Ethel and Last Days In Vietnam, was seen filming Baldwin outside of his home in New York; her crew is apparently also present at the film’s new set in Montana. Director Joel Souza, who was also shot in the incident that killed Hutchins, is returning to the film’s set to finish the movie.

It’s been a tumultuous few days for the case surrounding Rust; although charges against Baldwin are currently dropped, prosecutors have said they reserve the right to pick them back up. Meanwhile, a hearing in the case against Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who’s still facing involuntary manslaughter charges in relation to her alleged loading of the gun that fired the fatal round, has apparently been delayed, as authorities have said they need more time to investigate. Oh, and Baldwin himself has lined up another project, too as he gears up for a return to acting: A “meta” Hollywood comedy in which he’ll play a version of himself, which is, if we’re being a honest, a pretty bold gambit vis-à-vis how much any of us want to see Alec Baldwin as himself right now.

Fucking really, dude? AT BEST, this is just a bad idea. At worst most realistic it’s a way too soon way to prey/profit off of a tragic death that you yourself are at least partially responsible for! God damn! Jesus, Alec, just go away, you are making it more and more of a challenge for me to rewatch 30 Rock.

Profit off the death of one of your former coworkers whom you very much may have been responsible for killing?Fuck this guy in the most unpleasant way possible.I hope Hutchins’ family sues him for every and any penny he might make off of any such documentary/cinematic retelling project of her death. And if he already planned to give them all the proceeds, fuck him twice anyway for such a terrible attempt to stay relevant in the one context he shouldn’t want to have any relevance in.

I’m surprised they’re giving Alec Baldwin a another shot!

Wasn’t there some indication that Hannah Gutierrez-Reed had been excluded from the set when the shot was fired and did not have control of the gun immediately before the gun was retrieved from the gun cart? While Hannah Gutierrez-Reed certainly had a lot of responsibility for general control of the weapons, is it possible that the yahoos were playing with the guns and either left live rounds in this one or left them in the “dummy” box? This documentary should just be Baldwin sitting on a tall stool in a black set explaining how everyone handling a gun accepts responsibility for it. I think it will just be a work of fiction about Baldwin and how he was affected with enough fluff to hide the edges of that focus.

A above-the-line millionaire gets off with killing someone and boasts about it, while the below-the-line grunt gets screwed and the Union uses her as a non-union fall girl. It’s like Landis and the helicopter pilot all over again.

  • docprof-av says:

Baldwin isn’t making the documentary. He is cooperating with the documentarian.

  • sarusa-av says:

If Baldwin is cooperating, then ‘documentary’ needs to be in all the quotes. Odds are this is gonna be an advertorial for his innocence.
