As reported by Vulture, Alex Trebek is getting ready to release one thing that we’ve all wanted form him for the past few decades: A trashy tell-all book about Jeopardy! and all of the behind-the-scenes drama that happens when the cameras aren’t on. Ken Jennings did what? The Watson computer was actually a man in a box with access to Google? You don’t actually have to answer in the form of a question, and it’s only in the rules as a running joke? Fascinating!

Actually, we made that stuff up, as Trebek’s book is going to be less of a trashy tell-all and more of a regular memoir. Titled The Answer Is…: Reflections On My Life (that ellipses into a colon is a hell of a choice), the book will cover Trebek’s battle against pancreatic cancer, his marriage, and fun stuff like “what prompted him to shave his signature mustache, his insights on legendary players like Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer, and his opinion of Will Ferrell’s Saturday Night Live impersonation.” The book will be available on July 21, but apparently Trebek only agreed to write it relatively recently, after seeing how much goodwill he received from fans of Jeopardy! after announcing his cancer diagnosis. That makes us wonder: Did Trebek not know that people like him before that? If so, we as a society should really do a better job letting people know when we like them. Do Tom Hanks and Beyoncé know that we like them? Do they sit at home, wondering if anyone actually cares about what they do?

We don’t necessarily need them to write memoirs, but we’ll take some trashy tell-all books at least.

OK; I’m in. I hope he records it; I really enjoy listening to people read their own autobiographies. It really adds something to the experience.

“I hosted that one show for forever, and eventually I got cancer. It was pretty chill except for the cancer part. Peace”

What we really need to know is if he truly is a MIB

“This 2020 memoir was written by the former host of a game show known for giving its contestants the answers first”“What is The Answer Is…”“I’m sorry, you must phrase it as a question”

    * Each book comes with a cassette tape player for the Daily Doubles that have an audio clue. The book on tape version does the opposite.* Almost half of the chapters are Alex Trebek complaining about the various showboating winners.

The last chapter was just the phrase screw Arthur Chew written over and over.

A second cassette contains a tutorial explaining what the fuck a cassette is.A third cassette of bonus features is just an hour of Alex needlessly over-pronouncing certain clues in a needlessly flowery French accent.

He would prefer you read pages from the top down, but there’s nothing he can do to keep you from jumping down to those juicy paragraphs at the bottom of the page.

      * Almost half of the chapters are Alex Trebek complaining about the various showboating winners. Not including Holzhauer, though. I think Alex LURVES him. The college tournament has featured a couple of times where the kid made the “all in” Jeopardy James gesture when they hit a daily double. Alex was so happy!

What is “I’m glad to hear he’s still kickin’, but not sure I care about his perspective at all”?

  • twocents--av says:

If there’s no stories about him and Sajak doing blow backstage at the ‘86 Daytime Emmy Awards off the backside of one of Barker’s Beauties, then what’s the point of this?

  • happyinparaguay-av says:

Hope it includes the story about the time he got robbed by a hooker in a hotel.

  • weedlord420-av says:

The exact middle of the book will feature a greeting card-esque chip where Trebek says “Book, you’re behind at [x] pages, but don’t worry, you can still turn it around in Double Jeopardy”

Did he ever sign for all that sod from Siam?
