Good news for Skarsgård-heads: You’ll see a lot more of Alexander Skarsgård’s character—tech mogul Lukas Matsson—in season four of the HBO familial drama Succession. In a new interview, series producer Scott Ferguson divulges a few details about the expansion of Skarsgård’s character and the Roy’s trip to Norway.

“Last season we had an important new character and a new storyline—a potential merger with Alexander Skarsgård’s tech company,” Ferguson tells Variety.

Matsson was first introduced in season three, as the founder of GoJo who seeks out a merger with Waystar-Royco. As Logan Roy (Brian Cox) closes in on a deal with Matsson, the family’s going to take a little trip to immerse themselves in his world.

“We were really excited when Alexander came onboard—he’s a wonderful actor,” Ferguson continues. “And from the beginning, [Jesse Armstrong’s] idea was that the tech company was going to be led by someone from a Scandinavian country. In the writer’s room, around February, Jesse had an idea for an episode they wanted to be in [Matsson’s] part of the world.”

While the third season took the Roy family to the locales of Tuscany, in the fourth we’ll see them venture through Norwegian destinations such as the Atlantic Ocean Road, the Romsdalen Gondola, and the Juvet Landscape Hotel (as seen in Alex Garland’s Ex-Machina).

“When we saw images of the remarkable architecture and setting of Juvet we got really excited,” Ferguson says. “Norway is a glorious, natural setting. It immediately seemed like a perfect place for a family gathering in the series. We studied different countries, but we realized Norway just has this exceptional landscape—like nowhere else in the world.”

There’s no word on when we can expect the new season of Succession, but series stars such as Skarsgård, Sarah Snook, and Nicholas Braun are currently filming in the Scandinavian country.

It’s like when The Facts of Life girls went to Paris or when the Head of the Class class went to Moscow or when the Seavers went to Hawaii or The Brady Bunch went to . . . Hawaii or the Owens’s went to, I think, Altoona or the Tanners went to the airport and they didn’t go anywhere because it snowed but they still had a nice Christmas.

Ok, as long as we’re talking about “the” season four instead of just “a” season four, we’re all good here.

Well this is fucking good news.

I wish he’d do more comedy. I always enjoy watching his work, but he can be really funny and I feel like we’ve seen pretty much his entire dramatic range at this point.

He is underrated as a comic actor for sure. His few minutes as pseudo-Trudeau in The Longshot were the best parts of a pretty so-so movie. The Hummingbird Project didn’t really work as a whole, but I’ll never forget his Anton dancing through the hotel hallway then running away from the cops.

In an alternate Universe he would have been cast as Thor, which is interesting as he has a lot in common with Hemsworth. Both of them were/are better known as dramatic actors but are probably even more entertaining if there’s a comedic element.

I’m not convinced Skarsgard has Hemsworth’s natural goofball charisma.  Maybe that’s because I just saw The Northman.

Given how his character was already a bit of a parody of Elon Musk (complete with an episode subplot involving trying to parse one of his cryptic tweets) and Musk’s antics in the period between seasons, this might make for some great satire.

“And from the beginning, [Jesse Armstrong’s] idea was that the tech company was going to be led by someone from a Scandinavian country.”I’m not sure I believe this 100%. I mean that is a very specific pre-planned plot point with no real rationale other than you might get to cast a Skarsgard.I did notice how freaking big he looked in Succession, presumably bulking up for Northman, and that they kept him pretty well camouflaged in loose t-shirts.
