Earlier this week, we reported that Amazon was moving forward with one of the live-action TV projects it’s been developing based off characters in the Spider-Man multiverse, with Nicolas Cage set to star in Noir. That announcement notably avoided talking about the other Spider-Man spin-off show that’s been in development for the last several years, and now Deadline confirms it: Silk isn’t moving forward.

By this point, the live-action series, developed by Walking Dead alum Angela Kang, was probably more infamous for its production troubles than for its spin on the Spidey franchise, which focused on relative newcomer Cindy Moon, who got bitten by the same radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker his powers. (Then she got locked up in a vault for like 15 years, it’s a whole thing.) The series has faced multiple shutdowns and re-toolings since it was green-lit back in 2022, having been impacted by last year’s strikes, and then facing a “developmental overhaul” in February 2024, despite scripts for multiple episodes having reportedly already been written. (Rumors suggested that the show was being retooled to skew more toward male audiences, although nobody ever came out and said that particular quiet part out loud.)

Now, the live-action show—formally titled Silk: Spider Society—has been quietly dumped from Amazon’s plans, with the decision ultimately coming down, Deadline reports, between choosing Noir or Silk. (Both of which, we can’t help but note, sound like signature scents you could pick up at the J.C. Penney perfume counter, but that’s neither here nor there.) Kang, meanwhile, remains in an overall deal with Amazon, while the TV rights to the Silk character will revert to the folks over at Sony Pictures Television, which might try to shop the show around to other buyers.

Supposedly a bunch of Amazon execs were surprised that it was so much about the title character instead of any men, and asked if they could change that.

If you have to chose between Cage as Noir or Cindy Moon, you’d go with Cage Noir. Maybe like how almost all JJJ sound or look like JK Simmons all Noir Variants sound or look like Nick Cage

relative newcomer Cindy Moon, who got bitten by the same radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker his powerswell that’s pretty fucking stupid.

Wait until you find out what happens if they go near each other…

They help fulfill Joe Quesada’s fantasy that Peter Parker has sex with as many people not named MJ as possible?

I think what you meant to say is “I think women are pretty fucking stupid”. FIFY

Just because you think women are stupid doesn’t mean you have to project it on everyone else.

I mean, in the context of how Spider-Man characters get their powers, this is actually pretty reasonable.

      Comic books? Implausible and silly?!

    • hornacek37-av says:

It is. Spider-Man “writer” Dan Slott retconned it so that “in the split second between the spider biting Peter and it dying”, it also crawled across the room, bit someone else (Cindy), and then died – all in “a split second”.

Its silly, but that’s part of the fun of comics.

Oh damn I was looking forward to this. Is it because she’s a female character? Did they say. I wish they’d just say it.

Damn, I was really excited for this show, I love the Silk comics. Seems like I was the only one

The biggest loser in this is Insomniac. They introduced Cindy Moon in the post-credits scene of the Spider-Man 2 game, likely assuming that the Silk series would be made and people would have seen it by the time SM2 came out, meaning that when she was introduced in that post-credits scene, most players would say “Oh, it’s Cindy Moon! From that Silk TV show!”Unfortunately, since the show was in development hell for years, when the SM2 game came out and people saw that scene, 99% of them said “Who the hell is Cindy and why was this reveal important enough to have in a post-credits scene?”

    • dxanders-av says:

Eh, they’ll be fine. I can’t expect Insomniac were seriously banking on an Amazon show to be in production and have the reach to build an audience. I suspect they’re happy with the response of “it’s a lady spiderman!” and the recognition she’ll get attention in a MM-style side project or direct sequel.

Sony dropped the ball so freaking hard again. They should’ve made Silk as a movie so they could have an actual Spider-Person in their non-MCU Spider-films.
