We used to joke, years ago, about how no one was every going to actually be able to kill off AMC’s The Walking Dead, with the series continuing to shamble on in comfortably profitable perpetuity for the rest of time. Now, though, we’re starting to wonder if that might literally be the case: The flagship show might (finally) be over, but AMC has just cheerfully chucked extra seasons at two of its spin-offs—including one that hasn’t even made it to air yet.

That, of course, would be The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, the Norman Reedus-fronted sequel series that’s been getting plastered all over buildings at San Diego Comic-Con this year. (Even if Reedus himself isn’t in attendance, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.) The show will see everyone’s favorite vest-equipped crossbowman hanging out in France, taking in the local sights, touring all the hottest tourist spots, and (we’re assuming, because why the hell else would you set a Walking Dead spin-off show in France) killing a bunch of zombies in the Parisian catacombs. The series isn’t set to debut until September 10, 2023, but AMC’s high enough on it, apparently, that it’s already granted the show a second season.

Ditto The Walking Dead: Dead City, the spin-off focused on Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as odd-couple-if-Felix-had-murdered-Oscar’s-spouse-with-a-baseball-bat duo Maggie and Negan. The series is currently in the midst of its first season on AMC, having kicked off back on June 18.

In addition to the renewals, AMC also announced today that it’s settled on an official title for Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira’s own “What’s everybody been up to since The Walking Dead ended?” spin-off series, which will now be known as The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

Are zombies still interesting? Marketable? They’re everywhere in my city. They mostly just go to work and then drink after. They’re very passive/aggressive but sometimes they crash their cars into each other. Not very narrative-worthy. Sometimes I fear I was bitten myself.

Like the actual Apocalypse, it’ll just keep spreading and never end.

Well, it what it is. There may be plenty of hate for these shows, but there’s still enough love to keep it going as well. Dead City Seems to have somewhat of a different vibe going for it. Maggie and Negan’s performances kinda makes up for some of the flaws, but it still having some bad execution in the storyline. Especially with the characters and their choices. Still, it was renewed for a second season, so it was successful enough. The thing is with AMC, if they’re going to continue making shows based off The Walking Dead, they’re going to have to eventually go into directions  completely off the rails from the comics. Similar to Z Nation, they’re just going to have to find some way of altering the shows where it offers different flavors. Right now, they have followed the same formula for years when presenting stories, enemies, and character arcs. But, it’s one of the reasons why it gets plenty of hate as well. So far their go to formula has worked well enough to keep the shows running for multiple seasons. Ok The Walking Dead: World Beyond was possibly the one failure. Fear The Walking Dead did step into Fallout territory for a season. And I admit that particular season was more fun to watch. If AMC is going to keep milking this for years to come, then eventually they will have take this property and force it to evolve and mutate and be more than just zombie genre following the typical soap opera tropes. It’s going to have to go into territory that plenty of video games have done. They might as well adapt ideas into it from games like Fallout, Last of Us, Days Gone and Resident Evil. Hell it might as well have one spin off show that pretty much is Zombieland.
