Ariana Grande's latest album Thank U, Next has broken a ton of streaming records

Aux Features Ariana Grande

If you’ve ever wondered whether or not you’re one of the last remaining individuals who hasn’t checked out Ariana Grande’s latest album, a gang of shattered streaming records are here to assure you that yes, you likely are. Released less than six months after her critically embraced album Sweetener, Thank U, Next has already managed to solidify its reign with the biggest streaming week ever for a pop album, per a recent press release from Republic Records. Grande is also the only female artist occupy the list of top 10 biggest streaming weeks.

Thank U, Next crushed the global Spotify record for biggest opening day by a female artist along with the biggest opening 24 hours for a pop album in Apple Music history. All this comes after Grande’s earlier success with her music video for the album’s title track, which snagged YouTube’s record for most views within a 24-hour release.

In the U.K., Grande became the first female artist in history to simultaneously hold the No. 1 album and top 2 singles on the official charts. She’s also the first artist in history to replace herself at No. 1 on the U.K. Grande appears to also be streaming her best life over there, as well. Thank U, Next has garnered the most album streams ever by a female artist in a week in the U.K. The previous album to nab such an achievement: Grande’s own Sweetener.

Oh, and as a minor side note: Sweetener won two Grammys this year. You know, just a small detail.

I can definitely live with being the last to hear it.

It is worth a listen if you like electropop and/or R&B. I can say that I count for a few of those weekend (and Monday morning commute) streams.

Wow so brave of you to not listen to a good record bravo sir

Brave? How about just knowing what you like and avoiding what you don’t.

        • natureslayer-av says:

Countersnark and calling someone brave is as bothersome as the original snark and dismissal. Why won’t Kanye let people not like something?

Says the ugly fuck who constantly freaks out at people for not liking things.

I didn’t think the original comment was all that snarky.
This article uses hyperbole like “you’re one of the last remaining individuals”. Malingo’s comment provides some down-to-earth perspective.

    I like a pop album, but I couldn’t consume a whole one.

  • petermanspeter-av says:

Not discounting the smashing success of the album, but how relevant are these records historically considering even 5 years ago just a fraction of the population used streaming as their primary source of music?

  • severin-av says:

    Okay.

I listened to it this weekend. It was fine, but none of the songs are stuck in my head, and songs get stuck in my head very easily.

I have no strong feelings about this one way or anotherIf I die, tell Ariana Grande I said, hello

  • igotlickfootagain-av says:

Look, if the rest of you who haven’t listened to the album could get onto that, I’d appreciate it. I’ve always wanted to be unique, and at this stage it looks like being Sole Human Being to Have Not Heard ‘Thank U, Next’ is my best shot.

  • criskywalker-av says:

    Thank U, not interested.

She’ll probably be less pleased when she gets that Spotify royalty cheque for $127.

I mean that’s what happens when “youth media” posts a dozen new articles about Ariana Grande every single day. Did you hear she broke up with Pete Davidson? Check out this stupid Japanese tattoo she got! Let’s ask Japanese people what they think about her stupid Japanese tattoo lol. I’m shocked that people are listening to her music on spotify for free. It must be totally organic popularity.“Broke records” or “achieved projections” or maybe “exceeded projections”. Ariana Grande is a good brand. She can make us lots of money.
