The TV calendar heats up in August, with returning shows like breakout hits Only Murders In The Building, Heartstopper, and Reservation Dogs, along with newbies such as a star-studded Netflix drama on the opioid crisis. (Hulu’s Dopesick in 2021 was apparently just the start.). And that’s just the tip of the iceberg: Get ready for plenty of animated shows, a Sigourney Weaver-led limited series, and, crucially, yet another Star Wars show, the Rosario Dawson-led Ahsoka. To help break down all of that and much more, here is The A.V. Club’s guide to the notable series arriving next month.

Note: FX’s A Murder At The End Of The World, from series creator Brit Marling, was slated to premiere on August 29. It’s now moved to November.

I’ll watch anything Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij do together, so count me in for A Murder At the End of the World. I may not be ready to say goodbye to the Rez Dogs, though I’m glad they’re going out on their own terms.

Yeah after The OA I’ll at least give anything Brit and Zal do a chance.

According to what I just read, A Murder At The End of the World is postponed to debut in November, something to do with both WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. It looks good, though.

Yeah, looks like they updated the article here too. It’s cool, I’m fine waiting, solidarity with the workers!

We’re definitely in for Ahsoka. Can’t wait! Also reminds me I need to catch up on S2 of “Bad Batch”.

I want to be excited for it (Thrawn. THRAWN.) but the live-action SW shows have mostly been so godawful that I’m content to wait until there’s some consensus on whether it’s worth my time. Literally all I ask is basic competence, so that I’m not facepalming every two minutes at how dumb the plotting and dialogue are. I can deal with simplistic or cliched plots, but not with the characters all being brain-damaged.

It really depends on what the viewer is expecting and looking for in these live action SW series. I rank them…

        Mandalorian S1 – 9/10 Mandalorian S2 – 8/10 Mandalorian S3 – 6/10Boba Fett – 5/10Obi-Wan – 6/10

        Andor – 10/10

They all have some good moments, but also some cringe moments. Ahsoka seems like a no-brainer. It can’t miss. Let’s hope for the best.

        You didn’t care for Andor?

    • beni00799-av says:

Really not at all. Apart from Andor, all Disney SW shows have been shit.

    “MGM+” is a thing?

Heartstopper season 2 is looking like it’s going to be just as great as the first

  • hootiehoo2-av says:

Looking forward to Archer but I will say season 7 and 8 weren’t for me at all. Parts of season 7 were okay but the whole coma thing outside of the space one was a miss for me.

  • rigbyriordan-av says:

Wow. A Harlan Coben thriller finally set in New Jersey?!

Why is A Murder at the End of the World shown on the front thumbnail if it doesn’t have a slide?

I just wanted to express my gratitude for the opportunity to participate in a condolences card. Being a part of such a collaborative effort, where each person adds their unique touch, is truly special.
