The aptly named platform Britbox is a go-to service for British gems, from addictive crime thrillers to laugh-out-loud, groundbreaking sitcoms. The streamer boasts influential hits like the original version of The Office, singular satires such as The Thick Of It, and stellar shows starring Matthew Macfadyen and a pre-late-night James Corden, not to mention, blissfully, quite a bit of Matt Berry. To help you sort through it all, here is The A.V. Club’s guide to the service (sorted in alphabetical order). And if you’re thirsty for more ace shows from across the pond, check out our rundown of the best offerings on Acorn TV.

Personal favorites: 1. Vera, 2. Poirot, 3. Shetland
No cozy mysteries? Father Brown, Sister Boniface Mysteries, and Rosemary & Thyme are pure comfort food.BritBox also has Jeremy Brett’s Sherlock Holmes, which is the best version of Sherlock ever. Also all 26 seasons of classic Doctor Who!
Da fuq? No Ghosts?
Black Books? Red Dwarf? A third color name show to make a parallel list?
Green Wing?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Wing
See also: Poirot, Death in Paradise, Father Brown, Marple, and Midsomer Murders. No one does cozy mysteries like the British.
How is Inside No. 09 not on this list?
Inside No. 9 beats the living shit out of most of the rest of these. At least give it Gavin & Stacey’s slot. In fact, the only entry I wouldn’t kick off in its favor is Toast.
Also REV., with Olivia Coleman and Tom Hollander is kinda special.
Yes I hear you Clem Fandango!
Also: I’d go for McDonald & Dodds. Fun cozy mystery.
For even more Matt Berry check out “Year of the Rabbit” on BritBox. 70s cop show set in the old timey times.
I loved the first season of Staged, but there are seriously diminishing returns in seasons 2 and 3 as it disappears up its own arse.
Saloni Gains is using AI to write her pieces. No way a human can mention glinner without mentioning that he’s now a nutjob.
