It’s been three years since the last season of Black Mirror, and much like how our own society is inching (well, hurdling) towards disaster, Black Mirror season six is moving closer and closer to fruition. The highly-anticipated new installment of the disturbing and daring anthology series got a fresh new cast list today, letting us know which lucky actors get to escape our dystopia for a fictional one where they get sucked into an Amazon Echo or something.

Per Variety, Aaron Paul, Zazie Beetz, Paapa Essiedu, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Danny Ramirez, Clara Rugaard, Auden Thornton, and Anjana Vasan have all signed on for roles in Black Mirror’s next installment. However, the announcement only pertains to the first three episodes of the series, suggesting that Netflix will eventually announce more cast members for the final episodes.

Word of a new, “more cinematic in scope” season first dropped back in May. Still, beyond the recent casting dump, few additional details about the series have been shared (although season six will reportedly have more episodes than the lean season five.) Due to the new updates, production on the series is now believed to be underway, but any plot details remain securely under wraps.

Although the last season of Black Mirror was only three episodes long, it boasted a hefty share of across-the-board talent, including Andrew Scott’s performance as a spiraling rideshare driver in “Smithereens” and Miley Cyrus’s caged fem-bot pop star Ashley O in “Rachel, Jack, And Ashley Too.”

The new season of Black Mirror will also be the first installment since creator Charlie Booker and his creative partner Annabel Jones left their production company House of Tomorrow, in January 2020. The duo has since moved under the production banner Broke and Bones, an endeavor in which Netflix quickly invested a cool $100 million. If the investment is any indication, like our reality, there’s much more dystopia to look forward to.

Will he be playing Jessie Pinkman? Cause ho’ boy, he really can’t play much else.

On one hand, I will watch anything that Zazie Beetz is in.On the other, I couldn’t get through more than a couple episodes of Black Mirror because I’ve seen pretty much all of the ideas done better and not stretched out over an hour.On the gripping hand, I didn’t try any of the later seasons.  Maybe I will.

You don’t know you’ve “seen all the ideas” if you haven’t watched it, just say you didn’t get into it and don’t have an opinion.

      • murrychang-av says:

Sorry, I should be more specific: I’d seen all the ideas in the 2 or 3 episodes I watched done before, better and more succinct.
Beyond that:  Don’t tell me what to say or not say, tyvm.

As someone who’s itching for more variations on those themes, which episodes did you watch and where did you see them better? I’ll add them to my list!

Honestly it was 2 or 3 years ago at this point so I only know I watched the first 2 or 3. Just read a whole shitload of different sci-fi short stories and you’ll find the same themes around, as I remember. The one episode(now that I look it up) ‘The Entire History of You’ is pretty much a Philip K Dick story.

I was in line at the grocery store a few days ago. The person in front of me thought I was a hurry for some reason and offered for me to go ahead of her I replied “its fine I’m not in a hurry”, then some oaf construction guy in line behind me was like “I’m in a hurry” smirking and I didnt react and he raised his voice and repeated himself and then he goes “you’re supposed to laugh” and I responded “dont tell me what to do” and he’s like “lets go fight in the parking lot”. It got to the point where the store manager asked me if I wanted to call the police. It was super weird but like… don’t tell me what to do.

          I feel that.

he got asked to leave the store and was confused thinking he did nothing wrong lol I was like “the fuck?”

The last season was kind of a thud but Striking Vipers was pretty cool. Otherwise I would recommend San Junipero, Hang the DJ, Metalhead, USS Callister, and Nosedive.

The whole thing has been rubbish.

  • akabrownbear-av says:

Wonder if they’re making a sequel to “USS Callister” given Aaron Paul was in the very end of that episode.

    • omgkinjasucks-av says:

yeah that’s a pretty reasonable conclusionfor ordinary people who aren’t addicted to television, USS Callister seems to have had a lot more profile than a lot of the other iconic episodes, so I assume they are going to do a followup at some point.

      • czarmkiii-av says:

I doubt they’ll do a direct follow up. Probably a tangent connection.  He played game 691 so chances are something will show up in a background somewhere as to his identity and the story itself will be completely different.

    • batdalek-av says:

Maybe, but he only agreed to do that voice if it meant he could still be considered for a bigger role later in the series since he loves the show.

  • kinjacaffeinespider-av says:

Is Zazie Beetz here to challenge Millie Bobby Brown for name that’s most fun to say aloud?

  • lucasjustlucas-av says:

The word is ‘hurtling’ not hurdling.
