Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Sunday, June 13. All times are Eastern.

Top picks

Blindspotting (Starz, 10 p.m., two-hour series finale): “When Blindspotting hit the film festival circuit in 2018, the response from critics was unanimous: This film was a phenomenal debut for writing team Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal. The film took an ardent look at Oakland community and culture while tactfully tackling issues of systemic racism, police violence, gentrification, and cultural appropriation. The story followed childhood friends Collin (Diggs) and Miles (Casal), but was shown primarily through Collin’s eyes as he finished his last three days of probation and dealt with the recklessness of Miles’ choices, which ultimately impact their friendship. We also saw how Ashley (Jasmine Cephas Jones), Miles’ girlfriend of 12 years and mother of his son Sean was affected by his thoughtlessness. Now she’s at the center of a spin-off, also titled Blindspotting, which premieres June 13 on Starz.” Read the rest of Kayla Sutton’s pre-air review.

Tuca & Bertie (Adult Swim, 11:30 p.m., second-season premiere): They’re back! They’re really back! But Tiffany Haddish (almost) never doubted that Tuca & Bertie would return:

We’re amazing—Ali and I are amazing. You would be a complete idiot not to want to work with both of us, not to have us somewhere. Or: You’re broke; you can’t afford us. And, apparently, Adult Swim could afford us and they’re not dumb. They’re quite intelligent over there at Adult Swim, and they picked us up immediately. You know, we were concerned for a moment—but just a moment—and then we realized we’re amazing.

Read more about the show’s most welcome revival in our interview with Haddish and Ali Wong, and watch for Danette Chavez’s drop-in recap of the premiere. Huzzah!

Regular coverage

DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow (The CW, 8 p.m.)
Ziwe (Showtime, 11 p.m., first-season finale): drop-in review

A quick programming note about Kevin Can F**k Himself: This Annie Murphy-led series premieres today on AMC+, but we’ll be following the release schedule on AMC proper, so look for our coverage when the premiere airs on the mothership next Sunday night.

Wild cards

Sports edition!

Olympic Trials, “Diving” (NBC, 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.) and “Swimming” (NBC, 8 p.m.): The 2020 Olympics start next month (presumably the reasons for the delay are obvious). Last week, Simone Biles did her gravity-defying thing; tonight, the country’s best swimmers and divers will pinch their noses closed and jump into the deep end before dog-paddling toward glory.

Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show (Fox, 7 p.m.): Who’s ready for three hours of very good boys and girls? This marks the first time the Olympics Of Being A Fancy Dog have aired on network TV decades, so grab some popcorn and enjoy the shiny coats and big feels.

NBA Western Conference Semi-Finals, “Game Four, Phoenix Suns at Denver Nuggets” (TNT, 8 p.m.): The guy from the State Farm commercials (no, not Jake) faces off against the 2021 NBA MVP in Denver.

Sunday Night Baseball On ESPN, “St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs” (ESPN, 7 p.m.): For some of you, this is valuable information because you will watch it on television. For others—like, say, Chicagoans—it’s valuable because it’s a helpful reminder that you might want to avoid the Addison El stop tonight. Nature is healing.

I was flipping channels earlier today and landed on the Winchester Agility Trials.Glad I stayed. Small dog agility, the winner of the class I was watching was a little Sheltie that took off like a shot and never slowed down – and was adorable as all get out doing it.Too much TV is angry time. Cop porn. Domestic abuse dramas. Awful people doing awful things to other people. Turns out it was kinda awesome to spend an hour going “OMYGODLOOKATTHATFACE” every few minutes.

So is “Tell Us About Your Pop Culture Weekend” gone for good?I watched the fifth season of Kim’s Convenience. It’s doubly dispiriting to learn that not only is it not getting its intended final season, the cast had bad experiences making it. DAMN YOU, CBC! The final season of Feel Good was more fulfilling.
https://mattthecatania.wordpress.com/2021/06/12/tv-stuff-preemptive-powerpuff/Now I have to catch up on the new season of Mr. Inbetween since you didn’t warn me it was back.

Ha! Puny commenters. The mighty A.V. Club cares not for your sad little pop culture weekends. Now behold another one of awesome slide shows.

Mr. Inbetween is such a good show; it’s really incomprehensible to me how little I ever hear anybody mention it.

Seems like it as it wasn’t authored by anyone and could’ve been scheduled by monkeys. Oh, well.
I stumbled on the Netflix Ragnarok series and ended up watching both seasons somehow. I’m not really into the MCU or comic-based entertainment for that matter and that might be why I thought it was okay. It’s straddling a supernatural superhero story and a CW teen drama and doing nothing really well but I guess I was intrigued by the exotic Norwegian setting and language.I noticed Betty returned and watched the new episode. More of the same and I remain a sucker for NYC-based vé·ri·té shows. This is the first show that I noticed depicted life during the pandemic (e.g., people wearing masks, elbow bumping, outdoor dining shelters) vs. filming around it like Euphoria which was interesting. I’ve realized that I don’t tract to what’s going on with HBO anymore after switching from Go/Now to Max. I don’t get marketed new HBO Original content in the same ways and have to go out of my way to seek out their schedule (and then get annoyed at the permanent bug on their website that hides the main HBO channel in every browser I’ve used in the last few years).I also noticed that Stand by Me was expiring this month from Netflix, which has become less of an issue since almost everything bounces from one service I subscribe to to the next but I watched it anyway because it remains perfect (and perfectly short).

I too was wondering about TUAYPCW.
I’ve been watching both Drag Race Down Under (good cringe comedy) and Drag Race Espana (simply gorgeous).
Also, any of the recent versions of the Muppets could learn something from Nickleodeon’s The Barbarian and The Troll. Seriously, the comedy is spot-on, the puppet designs are inventive and memorable, and the sock-puppet musical number in episode 10 is easily the best musical moment on TV in recent memory. Sorry Lucifer.

Maybe because there was problems with Kinja over the weekend? I wasn’t able to respond to any articles on Jezebel.I checked out We Are Ladyparts on Sunday. I really enjoyed it. My boyfriend got into it too, even though he thinks anything with a British accent is boring. I’m rolling my eyes.

Only drop-in coverage of the Tuca & Bertie season premiere. The AV Club’s TV recap section has been deprived of resources.

    • ghoastie-av says:

So you’re saying the AV Club is broke? That it can’t afford to recap T&B?That is indeed one of two possibilities.

    • feral-pizza-at-home-av says:

Yep. I’m still pissed that they dropped Bob’s Burgers. I only read coverage of The Handmaid’s Tale.

  • suckabee-av says:

Ugh, Tuca & Bertie’s not listed on Adult Swim Canada and doesn’t seem to be airing anywhere here within the next two weeks.

  • spitebard-av says:

Anyplace to stream Tuca & Bertie S2 in Canada? I know some Adult Swim content is, ironically enough, on Netflix up here so it would be hilarious if it ended up there after everything.
