Cannes Film Festival lineup announced: It's not too late to get to France, Terrence Malick

In further news of faraway things that 95 percent of you will not attend—but which, in this case, will have a much greater impact on the stuff we’ll most likely be talking about in 2010—the official lineup for this year’s Cannes Film Festival was released today. As expected, the 63rd edition of two of the biggest weeks in film is once again heavy on international auteurs like Takeshi Kitano, Jean-Luc Godard, and Mike Leigh, though it also makes room for potential American blockbusters like Oliver Stone’s Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps and Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood update with Russell Crowe. As the L.A. Times points out, the much-rumored debut of Terrence Malick’s Tree Of Life is so far not on the schedule—which is weird, because Terrence Malick is usually so good about turning films around quickly—but the festival is reportedly holding out hope that it will be a last-minute addition. Audiences will get to sate their curiosities about Woody Allen’s new You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger, which has one of the more unusual Allen casts in recent memory (Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts, and Antonio Banderas).
