Punxsutawney Phil may have seen his shadow this year, meaning we’re not out of the winter yet, but fear not: There are plenty of new albums waiting to usher in an early spring. From Charli XCX’s latest to ebullient records from Stromae and Drug Church, these upbeat sounds will score your fantasies of warmer weather and longer days. But hey, if you’re more of the dark-and-broody variety, there’s no shortage of material there, either: The Weather Station, Blanck Mass, and more are all back with new releases. And did we mention the album of unreleased Sonic Youth music? Yeah, it’s gonna be a decent month.

Sonic Youth’s last decade was so full of interesting work and the two albums with Mark Ibold after O’Rourke left are particularly underappreciated. I’m really excited to hear some of the unreleased stuff.

March 11th sees the new album from Bodega. Their first album was a ton of Parquet Courts-adjacent fun.

I’ve heard of 16 of these! And all respect to Benny the Butcher, but I have to feel like diminishing returns are about to set in there. It’s not like he’s going to make some wild stylistic pivot.

I like most of these but Nilüfer Yanya wins for me.

Huge miss to not include An Hour Before It’s Dark by Marillion coming out on March 4th.

Fucked Up’s high water mark album is The Chemistry of Common Life and you will be hearing from my lawyer.

I used to be one of those lame assholes that was like “there is no good music anymore” but every month there is like two or three albums I’m excited for like Drug Church, Band of Horses, and I’m curious about the new Franz Ferdinand album. Hell next month I’m pumped for the new PUP album.

This was a strange timeline I lived through where Cyndi Lauper was in the WWE (Known as the WWF at the time) Cyndi even coached her own female wrestler and got involved in the wrestling storylines and there was even an animated WWF series. So at this time Cyndi is hanging out every night with famous wrestlers. They follow her everywhere. So when she wins best new artist, guess who comes on stage with her? Why it’s none other then…
