No one is working as hard to kick as much ass in Hollywood as Charlize Theron. Her dance card is currently completely full of action roles, including Fast X and sequels to The Old Guard and Atomic Blonde. And this is coming off cameos in two of the buzziest superhero universes, Prime Video’s The Boys and the MCU.

Speaking with Variety, Theron revealed that her Boys appearance was all thanks to her Long Shot love interest. “Seth [Rogen, The Boys executive producer] asked me a while back, and I will lay my body over broken glass for that guy and all of his partners at Point Gray, I absolutely love them, and we look after each other,” she said. “I love the show. I think it’s really smart.”

The meta cameo of her role satirizing superhero blockbusters on The Boys took on another level of meaning due to the fact that she had an actual cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Theron gave Marvel boss Kevin Feige a heads up about her involvement in The Boys when he called to offer her the part of Clea: “I was very transparent, and they were just like, ‘This is great.’ I mean, [The Boys is] a satire. I think there’s room for everything, and it doesn’t mean anything other than people are interested in these kind of worlds right now.”

Obviously, the actor speaks from experience, seeing as how she’s kind of cornered the market in comic book/graphic novel adaptations. Speaking of, she teased that The Old Guard 2 would have “action that’s raising the bar of what we did last time.”

She also weighed in on Vin Diesel’s dream of a spin-off for her Fast & Furious character–but even an action hero like Theron has limits: “Listen, the man has pulled off this incredible franchise, so I wouldn’t put anything past him. But he’s gotta hurry up because I need a hip replacement.”

One does not simply disapprove of Charlize Theron.

If Charlize Theron isn’t in your franchise, is it even a franchise?

Rockin the Eilish look, I see (well, I might add). Anyway, not much to add because Theron kicks all kinds of ass and I’m glad to see her getting so many high profile roles.

It’s great that The Boys can pull prestige cameos from A-listers like Charlize. I think her presence in The Dawn of the Seven really added to the show, and I am glad that there are not nerd turf wars that would have squashed this kind of thing. It is a great time to be a consumer of superhero media.

“No one is working as hard to kick as much ass in Hollywood as Charlize Theron.”

Weird, since in every interview with her I’ve ever encountered she seems to be the most laid-back, laconic person in Hollywood.

she threw her gloves off during her guest episode of how did the get made and i love that.
her “scruffy superhero” days go back to hancock. she knows what shes doing.

You can’t buy that kind of fortuitous timing.

Put on a pink bowtie and get thee to the Party Down reboot!

The MCU gets a lot of hate for a lot of things, but casting Charlize as Clea is a very cool move. I mean she in amazing actor and looks great but Hollywood being Hollywood they could easily have cast a 20 something as Clea to be Strange’s next love interest and instead opted for someone age appropriate

I legit did not even think of that because I was so excited to see her show up (somehow didn’t have that spoiled), and she’s such a timelessly beautiful person that I didn’t think of her age, but damn, you’re right! I’m shocked she’s not playing his mom or something the way Hollywood traditionally works.

Theron showed up, and you immediately go, “Yeah, okay, I can see how Cumberbatch gets over Rachel McAdams for her.” Not just because she’s maybe one of the most beautiful women on the planet, but because she exudes power and authority. I would follow her into battle, if she asked.

I am still going to miss Palmer, though (but they had to jump universes to make her plot relevant). McAdams was so great in the What If episode too.

        • thecoffeegotburnt-av says:

Oh, agreed. McAdams deserved a meatier role than “love interest,” but I was glad they gave her more to do in this last one.

Some of the directors who criticize the MCU as “less than cinema” could take a lesson or two about female casting choices from the MCU …

Cant wait for Atomic Blonde and Old Guard sequels! Love her!

  • rigbyriordan-av says:

Someone is going to have to remind me when she showed up in Doctor Strange AMM, and as who?

    • lobothesecond-av says:

She showed up in the first post credit scene, as a character called Clea. Was only on screen for about a minute or so.
Who her character is l have no idea, not being a comic book reader.

    • cura-te-ipsum-av says:

Right at the very end in the post credits sequence as Clea.
