Yesterday, The New York Times published the accounts of five women who say Louis CK either asked to masturbate in front of them or forced them to watch him masturbate. The bombshell report was the reason for the cancellation of the New York premiere of CK’s I Love You, Daddy, which is a movie about a middle-aged TV producer (CK) trying to stop a senior citizen and filmmaker (John Malkovich) from dating his teenage daughter (Chloë Grace Moretz). The movie’s content raised questions at its TIFF premiere earlier this year, as it seemed to be parodying the allegations against Woody Allen while also pointing to rumors about CK’s own misconduct.
In wake of the allegations against CK, HBO has pulled his shows from its streaming platforms, while FX, which has had a longstanding and lucrative partnership with the Louie creator, says it is reviewing these “troubling” accusations. Now The Los Angeles Times reports that two of CK’s I Love You, Daddy co-stars are refusing to promote the film. Moretz’s publicist told The Times that the actress backed out of doing press for the movie two weeks ago after being made aware of “numerous possible accusations.” And Charlie Day, whose character both advises the CK character to confront the Malkovich character about his predatory behavior and also mimes masturbation in an increasingly uncomfortable scene, gave the Times this statement: “I was as appalled as everyone to read the allegations made in The New York Times. I do not condone sexual misconduct and, in light of the allegations, will not be promoting the movie further.” Their castmates, including Rose Byrne, Edie Falco, Helen Hunt, and longtime CK collaborator Pamela Adlon, have not weighed in on the matter.
