The next universe Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty are set to explore is ours. In a new clip, Adult Swim teases fans with a live-action recreation of Rick And Morty. It looks like creators Dan Harmon and and Justin Roiland have been listening to everyone’s begging and their theories, just in time for the double-episode season 5 finale on Sunday.

Christopher Lloyd makes his appearance as Rick, letting out a belch before telling Morty, “We’re home.” Jaeden Martell aces Morty’s nervous energy as he anticipates another off-the-rails adventure with his unhinged grandfather. The duo steps in from the staple green portal into a live-action version of the family’s garage—which also serves as Rick’s laboratory. The caption, “C-132,” refers to the version of Rick and Morty that exists in this universe, which is covered in the comics.

It’s unclear if the season finale will be a full live-action episode, or if Harmon and Roiland created the teaser for the bit and to invoke more excitement. It’s a stretch, but there’s also the possibility that they could be teasing the recently announced Ricky And Morty film that’s in the works. The theories, much like the multiverse, are endless.

Lloyd’s role as Rick was manifested before Rick And Morty became an Emmy-winning series. In 2012, Roiland created a X-rated short titled The Animated Adventures of Doc and Marthi, as a parody on the Back To The Future films. While Roiland voices Rick in the series, the man who famously played Emmett “Doc” Brown in Back To The Future will fulfill a prophecy by playing his iconic character from an alternate dimension.

The season 5 finale of Rick And Morty airs on Adult Swim this Sunday at 11. p.m., with two episodes airing back to back. Episode 9 is called “Forgetting Sarick Mortshall” and episode 10 is called “Rickmurai Jack.”

Oh neat! Can’t wait for this episode to win the show a third Primetime Emmy for *checks notes* Outstanding Animated Program.

I really think its just one of those random promos that Adult Swim does, like the claymation Rick and Morty promos.

      • rafterman00-av says:

Hard to say if it was just a promo, or an indication of something bigger. That was a lot of money and work to get Christopher Lloyd and recreate the garage, just for a ten second gag.

That is one Hollywood ass Morty. I’m not saying they should have looked for a more weird-looking child, but they definitely should have looked for a more weird-looking child.

To think that man has been elderly since the 80’s

  • anthonypirtle-av says:

I wish I could like this show, since everyone online constantly talks about it.

    • galdarn-av says:

Do you wish anyone cared if you like it or not? Because nobody does.

You have to have a very high IQ to… jk, sometimes a show just doesn’t gel with your sensibilities and that’s fine. There’s so much amazing stuff these days that there’s no need to feel FOMO over something that doesn’t work for you 🙂

The first two seasons were fine but it wore thin on me at that point so you’re not alone or odd. I have friends who constantly insist on Rick & Morty and I’ve watched it up till I no longer could.Alternately, I loved BoJack Horseman but couldn’t get any of my friends to watch a single episode.Different strokes…

I loved both. Wanna be email pals?

I find R&M to be infinitely rewatchable, just like Archer. BoJack, OTOH, is a series I forced myself into and did like, but also lost interest in halfway through. I’m smiling on the outside but damn near depressed all the time and BoJack just…ugh. I know I’ll finish the series at some point but it’s not an easy show sometimes. Kinda like the last season of Arrested Development on Netflix. I know I watched it, but I’ve mentally blocked it out of my memory because I’d rather just remember the first three seasons and call it a day. Also:  That Jessica Walter was still doing her thing (acting and voice) at 80 is amazing. RIP.

I find it’s a two steps forward-one somersault back sort of show where every bit of growth and development in the comedy and writing is dropped the second someone had a great idea on how to make a 14 year old laugh.

That or its own bleak worldview means it can’t ever let genuine moments of emotion not be undercut with something shitty. I. thought the season 2 season finale was excellent, for example, and then undercut by the dumb return of season 3.

Rick and Morty… exists. It’s fine. It has a shitty fandom, but what doesn’t these days.

    • schmapdi-av says:

I find the show quite enjoyable (though I’m a few seasons behind at this point) – but the fanbase is so terrible it makes it hard to really want anything to do with it.

    • soylent-gr33n-av says:

I couldn’t get into it either. I tried streaming it on Hulu and it just didn’t vibe. I’m more of a Venture Bros./Archer guy, I guess.

I just love Christopher Lloyd so much

  • butterbattlepacifist-av says:

    Ah jeez

First, it was A Million Ways to Die in the West. Now it’s Rick and Morty.Christopher Lloyd cameos are just always spoiled in advance.

    • luigihann-av says:

I don’t think this is a teaser for anything in particular, I think it’s just a one-off Adult Swim promo for the show, so I don’t think it’s necessarily spoiling anything to share it. I think the clip itself is the extent of the cameo.Though I am lucky I stumbled across the clip on twitter before blog headlines and thumbnails started spoiling the contents of the clip.

    • labbla-av says:

Without seeing the episode I’m not sure how you could call a promotional clip a spoiler.

  • Fieryrebirth-av says:

I don’t really care for R&M, but seeing Christopher Lloyd again always is a delight. Ever since Lloyd took part in a Back to the Future revisit(to celebrate Part 2’s “future”)on a talk show a few years back, Lloyd had zero energy and it was difficult for him speaking for very long after going back to his former role for a bit. It was…kind of depressing despite him still sticking to character.
In this bit, Lloyd had the energy just for a single, character-friendly sentence and I find it appropriate.

  • penguin23-av says:

Christopher Lloyd has been married like five times. I don’t know why I was so surprised to learn that.

  • chuk1-av says:

Did they have to get a member of his family to write this article? Seems like nepotism.

  • saltier-av says:

Of course Lloyd is the live action version of Rick Sanchez. There really wasn’t any other choice.

  • junker359-av says:

Christopher Lloyd is seemingly such a nice guy that he’s hard to buy as Rick.
