2021 is going out with a bang, at least at the movies. This December is as crowded as any other at the multiplex, with Hollywood returning to business as usual with a slate of blockbusters, including a new Spider-Man, another Matrix sequel, and Steven Spielberg’s lavish remake of West Side Story. The last month of the year is also, of course, typically stuffed with awards-season fare, as the mini-majors and their streaming-giant competitors unfurl their most promising candidates for Oscar glory. Keep reading to find out everything that’s coming to theaters and a living room near you before the ball drops.

Scary of 61st is a great film

All these questions and more—including what the damn thing’s actually about; the IMDB synopsis still reads, “The plot is currently unknown”—will be answered in multiplexes and on HBO Max this Christmas.I’m not sure that IMDB synopsis will change __after__ the movie is released.(Obviously I’ll be watching it on the release day 😀 )

I’m ready to enter the Matrix…again

Gotta disagree with the critics calling The Hand of God uneven. I liked it a lot. I would definitely recommend people check out Red Rocket too. I liked Flee as well, but I was a little underwhelmed after all of the hype I’d been hearing about it over the last year.

With the release of American Underdog, nearly every American [NOUN] movie title has now been taken. Filmmakers wishing to use this lazy but popular formulation should be advised that only the following original titles are now available:

    American Persiflage
    American Bezoar
    American Funambulist
    American Spitchcock

All I want for Christmas is for Matrix 4 to not suck.

I thought he started out as a carnie who looked down on geeks.

Yeah, that’s a pretty important point, actually. Apparently no one who worked on this story has seen the movie.Other than Macbeth, this is the one I’m looking forward to the most. The first film version is a decent noir thriller. I’m interested to see what can be done with a stacked cast, del Toro’s visuals, and the absence of mid-20th century restrictions.

Kidman is pretty believable as Lucy in the new trailer. Also I love Almodóvar even at his weakest, so I’m excited for this which looks great.

Benedetta takes faith seriously, although with more less sex than the real Church prefers.

I don’t understand how American Underdog made it from concept to costuming to production to release with the football jersey numbers being so small. They look like Halloween costumes that your mom makes when you are 7 and she doesn’t want to buy an authentic jersey.

Clooney’s directorial career has been mixed, but I still love Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. I learned today that he’s apparently making it into a TV series, which could be fun.

Right… Oscar contenders… I will watch a handful of those in this list. Catch up time with Netflix series that came out in the summer… I’m told Arcane is good. How long did Spielberg spend doing his version of West Side Story? Feels like years. It sure kept him from doing Indy 5. He does know musicals are not everyone’s cup of tea, right?

Any of them streaming at the same time they’re released in cinemas?

  • dougr1-av says:

Gotta admit, that last shot in Seeking was brilliant.

It’s going to be weird watching Tig Notaro in West Side Story.

  • adammo-av says:

I’m a massive fan of The Big Short so if critics are even remotely correct and it’s in the same ball-park for quality then I’m excited. Although it’s strange to say it’s some of his best post-Ferrell work since he’s done… 2 movies since branching off. Not really a big body of work to compare.
