A trailer is now out for I Am Chris Farley, a new documentary about the life of the troubled Saturday Night Live star, who was 33 when he died of a cocaine and morphine overdose in 1997. The trailer debuted as a BuzzFeed exclusive on Facebook, all the better to keep the “fat guy in a little coat, R.I.P. Chris Farley, your the true Beverly Hills Ninja” comments close by. It includes clips of interviews with the people who knew Farley best, many of whom also happen to be some of the biggest names in comedy from the last several decades. The interview subjects include Adam Sandler, Dan Aykroyd, Molly Shannon, Lorne Michaels, David Spade, Bob Saget, Farley’s brother Kevin, and Bob Odenkirk. (Bo Derek is also there.)

From the looks of the trailer, the movie is trying to wring quite a few tears from its audience, as Farley’s friends and colleagues talk at length about his humor and infectious enthusiasm, but also his struggles with respectability, fame, and the addictions that ultimately killed him. According to BuzzFeed, I Am Chris Farley opens in theaters July 31 and will come to VOD, digital download, and DVD on August 11. That’s an upgrade from the original plan, which would have seen the movie debut on Spike.
