Although even Whit Stillman has said that Damsels In Distress—his first new film in more than a decade—is something of a departure for him, what with its lightly comic touch and stylized veneer, it is still, in its heart, a Whit Stillman film. So even amid the fizzy dance numbers and frat-comedy homage that comprise Stillman's fanciful tale of girls cleaning up a depressed college with hygiene lessons and suicide-prevention counseling, there are still moments like the one in this exclusive clip, where Greta Gerwig's self-actualized leader finds herself unexpectedly sidetracked by Adam Brody's charming intellectual and his free-flowing dialectic on the state of modern homosexuality. It's an essay as extended flirtation, and it's distinctively Stillman.
