David Letterman and his great big beard are coming back to Netflix pretty soon

At the end of last year, Netflix announced that David Letterman’s new talk show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction would be released at some point in 2019. Well, it is now some point in 2019, and Netflix has shared a proper premiere date for Letterman’s show: May 31. According to a press release, all six episodes of the new season will be available on the streaming service on that day, but in a cruel twist, we don’t know who any of the guests will be. Obviously they “need no introduction,” since that is the name of the show, but some introduction would be nice beyond the promise that Letterman finds them “extraordinary.” The first season, for those who don’t recall, had Barack Obama, JAY-Z, Malala Yosafzai, George Clooney, Tina Fey, and Howard Stern, all of whom are at least a little bit interesting.

Anyway, while we still don’t have a guest list, we do have a giant photo of David Letterman’s face. You can see it below, and make sure to save it to your phone and use it as a wallpaper.

    A GREAT BIG BUSHY BEARD!

Besides a great talk show to rely on, it’s comforting to know that Dave has all the mall Santa jobs he can handle during the holiday season.

Not fat enough. But he could be one of those historical impersonators who visit schools and answer questions only in character. I’m thinking John Brown in the Harpers Ferry era.

Anybody else find Letterman to be a piss poor long form interviewer?  Like, just really, really bad at it?

dave interviewed kanye west so that’s almost definitely one of the episodes.please do not take this purely informational comment as an invitation to tell me how you feel about kanye west because i do not care.

I watched his interview in the Ellen show, and how I miss him. As a pure racconteur, he has no rivals.

I just wish Craigie Fergie would do some more one-hour no-audience chats with the likes of Stephen Fry again.

I miss Letterman. His retirement ended my love affair with latenight talk shows. In my mind his retirement coincides with new age of everything dreadful. I really appreciate that he’s doing this show.

I still like Conan but never watch him. Fallon is hit or miss, usually the latter as he can’t stop laughing at himself. Seth is my go-to for everything, followed by Colbert. John Oliver is the best however, but he’s only on once a week and only about half the year. I have no idea how any of the other folk continue to be on air. I miss Dave, his Late Night was easily the best ever after the glory days of Carson in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s.

Losing Craig Ferguson’s show at roughly the same time did it in for me. Dave was my hero, and Craig was an upstart genius at the format. He should have been moved to 10:35. I like Colbert, but can’t seem get myself to tune in more than once or twice a month.

I agree on Ferguson. He was brilliant. I’d take him back in a heartbeat.

I’m from the UK, never really got the appeal of Letterman from clips of his show on YouTube vs the other Late Night hosts from the US, but his Netflix show was brilliant, looking forward to more.

I presume these have already been filmed, and in front of an audience like last season. And to think that none of those people leaked the guest they saw on twitter? preposterous.
