Last January, we reported that Syriana director Stephen Gaghan had signed on to direct The Division, an adaptation of the Ubisoft video game about special military operatives sent in to a plague-ravaged Manhattan to execute gang members and troll other human players with high-tech gadgets and various different-colored hats. Now, like everybody else did after a few months of going through the same areas and collecting the same hats, Gaghan has dropped off of The Division. Luckily, Ubisoft already has a replacement in the form of Deadpool 2 director David Leitch, with The Hollywood Reporter confirming that he will be adding The Division to his growing pile of projects—which also now includes the Fast And Furious spin-off.
The Division will star Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal, though the specifics of their characters haven’t been announced yet (as an online shooter, the video game didn’t have a ton of named characters who weren’t player-created).
