Denver, see The Crow tonight as part of our Fantastique film series

Howdy! Senior writer Jason Heller here. Just wanted to let you know that Fantastique, The A.V. Club’s monthly fantasy film series, continues tonight at Alamo Drafthouse Denver with… The Crow.

Released in 1994, this atmospheric, urban-fantasy classic is based on James O’Barr’s cult independent comic and directed by Alex Proyas, the mind behind 1998’s masterful Dark City. The Crow uniquely captures the angst-ridden zeitgeist of the early ’90s—although its success was marred by the tragic, accidental death of its lead, Brandon Lee, during its filming. Tonight’s screening will be in 35mm. What better way to kick off the Halloween season?

Like Science Friction (Fantastique’s sister series at Alamo that focuses on science fiction), Fantastique is curated and hosted by yours truly. I’ll be there tonight to introduce The Crow and pick the winner of this month’s giveaway: a copy of the official Goosebumps movie tie-in book Slappy’s Revenge, which I wrote, courtesy of Scholastic Books. Heck, I’ll even sign it. I’ll also be giving away 20 signed copies of Nightmares Unhinged, the new horror anthology by Hex Publishers (which features a story by me as well as many other fine authors). Josh Viola, editor and publisher of Hex, will be my guest host for the evening. But that’s not all! One lucky audience member will win a pass to MileHiCon, Denver’s oldest and largest science fiction and fantasy convention, which takes place October 23-25.

As with all Fantastique and Science Friction screenings, this event is sponsored by The A.V. Club. Tickets for The Crow are on sale now.
