It was only a few months back that Loren Bouchard emphasized his desire for the Bob’s Burger’s movie to come out in theaters, and he appears to be sticking by it. Disney today announced that the film spin-off of the animated hit is now unset after being bumped from its April 9 release date. This thing’s gonna be ice cold by the time it arrives.

Disney’s delayed release dates come in the wake of the numerous Sony bumps we reported on Thursday. They include Kingsman prequel The King’s Man, which is being kicked from March 12 to August 20, and the Guillermo del Toro-produced Antlers, which, after numerous delays, will arrive on October 29. A few other releases received new release dates in this batch, including The Eyes Of Tammy Faye (September 24) and another del Toro joint, Nightmare Alley (December 3).

As always, these dates are bound to change.

I’m a little surprised that Bobs Burgers (the series) hasn’t made the jump to Disney+ yet. The movie seems like a perfect fit, too, though I wouldn’t object to seeing it in a theatre when it’s safe.

probably just an outstanding licensing deal thing.

Disney owns Hulu too, which is where it is. If I had to guess why it’s on Hulu rather than Disney+, it’s because there’s a whole lot more talk about butts and bodily fluids than The Simpsons.

      • bloggymcblogblog-av says:

Yeah, Bob’s Burgers is a 20th Century production and HBO still has the first run rights to 20th Century films for another couple of years.

    • coolmanguy-av says:

Disney really needs to figure out what it wants on D+ and what it wants on Hulu. It’s kind of a mess right now. Although I’m very glad hulu is still putting almost every broadcast network show on Hulu the day after it airs. It’s like DVR for people who don’t have a cable box

warner’s strategy is looking smarter and smarter, unfortunately.

    • facebones-av says:

Agreed. I love going to the movies, love getting popcorn and beer at Alamo Drafthouse, but I love not getting a crippling respiratory disease more. It turns out the WB betting on Trump fucking up the vaccine rollout was a pretty good one.

For them, yes, because they had an incredibly difficult time growing subscribers for HBO Max and the early results look good for them from WW84. I’m not so sure it makes as much sense for Disney though, they’ve massively exceeded expectations for subscribers already and are likely going to keep growing at a large pace. Because they already have tons of IP that cater to families and planned projects with Marvel, SW, Pixar, animation, so on. The only real reason to do it might just be to not hold back the MCU continuity any longer as they have plans for the shows and movies to intersect. But I don’t know if it will ever make much sense for them to release movies like The King’s Man for a guaranteed loss.

      • adamtrevorjackson-av says:

king’s man likely has to come out theatrically in some way as part of the fox deal.and yeah, it’s also easy for me to say ‘warner’s strategy’ but it’s really only them and disney who have the luxury, and disney is in a better position to just sit on things. if things ever get truly dire they can always pull the $30 mcu VOD money printing button. though i can’t speak for how much larger disney effects everything else. surely the theme park/cruiseline division must be hurting the other parts, and obviously not having any theatrical releases is hurting them many billions, even with streaming as a success.gonna be very interesting to see what the box office looks like when theatres are back open at full capacity, whenever that is.

It’s a shame that The King’s Man can’t just be released if only because that seems like an ideal streaming release that gets a weekend of attention compared to what will likely be a shrug at the box office. I know there’s little to be done about that, but it does seem like a perfect streaming movie.I do think they’ll pull the trigger on Black Widow sooner rather than later only because of the larger MCU implications. The longer they hold it, the farther everything gets pushed.

I wonder if there’s no way that they can just sell The King’s Man to Netflix for some lesser loss and just wipe their hands clean.

          • lmh325-av says:

I believe part of the issue is that there’s a pre-standing Fox deal that not only requires a theatrical release, but also requires that HBO gets first run of VOD for the movies – This happened with Dark Phoenix and New Mutants, but I had thought it was largely the X-Men movies. Now, I’ve read it’s all of the Fox films that were already made before Disney bought Fox. I’m still not sure that sells me on it’s not better to just tell HBO they can have it, but that seems to be the squeakier wheel in the situation. If it were just a Disney movie, I’d bet it would be on hulu right around now.

You know it’s probably going to be shit anyway. They keep trying to make this a thing, like when they tried to make Chris Pine into Brad Pitt.

        • turbotastic-av says:

They’re already doing the $30 thing again for Raya and the Last Dragon in March. That movie will also get a theatrical release so they’re kind of doing the same thing as HBO Max but with a paywall. My guess is that they’ll eventually cave and do this with the Black Widow movie, because the downside of a connected film universe is that if one of your movies gets delayed, everything else has to wait for it. Eventually they’ll have to release Black Widow in some form if they want the MCU to continue.

“bob’s burgers” is such a wonderful show!

  • the1969dodgechargerguy-av says:

WHAT THE EFF!!! Bob’s Burgers is the best written show on TV. Disney getting cold feet due to the kids not being the proper Disney youngsters?

  • coolmanguy-av says:

I’m pretty excited for this movie. It would definitely feel cooler to see it in a theater since I’m sure they did a little more than usual in the animation department.

  • gargsy-av says:

“the Guillermo del Toro-produced Antlers, which, after numerous delays”

Weird that, in an article detailing several movies that have been delayed several times, you felt the need to point out that this one was ALSO delayed “numerous” times.

  • duke-of-kent-av says:

I really like Bob’s Burgers, and I’m looking forward to watching the movie, but even in the “before times” I don’t think I’d run out to see it in a theater (and there’s certainly no movie good enough to persuade me to go to the theater right now).
I don’t go to the movie theater often, and when I do, I save the experience for those films that can really take advantage of the big screen and immersive sound. A 2D cartoon just doesn’t make it worthwhile for me — even if it’s backed up with Gene’s music. But I’d eagerly pay a premium to stream it from the comfort of my own home.

    • schwartz666-av says:

As much as I can’t wait to see the movie, I’m totally with Loren when he said “We’re excited about Bob’s the movie being seen in the theater,
in the dark with other people, because that’s something we’ve never been
able to do before. That’s the main course that we’re delivering to
people, in this case.”I’ve rewatched the series at home literally dozens of times now as comfort food, so I’m all for delaying it as long as it takes for us to enjoy the most likely epicness of the big screen Burgers. Especially with ultra-refined animation and killer audio quality songs.

  • michelle-fauxcault-av says:

Louise was made for the big screen.

  • swimmyfish-av says:

Is there another movie called The Eyes of Tammy Faye? Or is the 20 year-old documentary finally getting the widespread release and acclaim it deserved?

  • gabrielstrasburg-av says:

Bobs Burgers movie is definitely not something that would need to be seen in a theater. That is the ideal movie to see at home since it does not matter how big your screen is.

    • nesquikening-av says:

*farts*(Oh, sorry…that was just my final essay for Gas Class. And if you wanna pass Gas Class, you gotta pass gas!)

  • MrMiyamoto-av says:

Noooooooooo, just Disney+ it you cowards!

  • rafterman00-av says:

Movie theaters are dead, at least for the foreseeable future. It’s time certain creators get over it.
