Olivia Wilde’s directorial venture Don’t Worry Darling, starring Oscar nominee Florence Pugh and pop superstar Harry Styles, finally opens in theaters on September 23, following months of anticipation, widely dissected trailers, mixed reviews and festival reactions, and loads of behind-the-scenes intrigue. With so much to unpack, it’s understandable if you’re wondering where to start.
So The A.V. Club has assembled a primer of the film’s inspirations (think The Stepford Wives), backstories (consider The Feminine Mystique), and headlines (So. Much. Drama.), all to give you a better sense of where Don’t Worry Darling came from, how we got here, and just what to expect.

Bingo. And when the actual movie comes out, they’ll give it a C-, as though that will restore their credibility…
They already did.
No one’s paying for this
Seems like you left out the most important part of the primer: why we should care about any of the stuff in this primer.
This seems like a lot of work for a film that’s already received largely poor/dismissive reviews, will come and go without most people noticing, and seems to not even be getting a wide release in the US.But OK!
We just wish that for once you’d live up to your family’s name.
All i need to know is when it will be available to stream. Not paying money to see this. Still deciding if its worth 2 hours of my time.
JESUS CHRIST! This movie is not out yet? Also I think we hit peak AVClub shit here. Its continued coverage about a movie few people care about, but now in slide show form. Was it to much to ask to make each slide a video too? Or were you all saving that slide down another level of hell for next week?
Well, it’s either that or they have an AV Club Andor Week. All Andor, all the time.
Remember Andor, he’s back in pog form
This film feels older than covid
