The response to ID’s Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV has been swift and extensive. Among the most discussed documentary series in recent memory, Quiet On Set exposed the systematic abuse that befell young Nickelodeon stars by the people expected to protect them. Chief among the accusers is Drake Bell, the star of Drake & Josh, who says he was abused by former Nickelodeon dialogue coach Brian Peck. Bell accuses Brian Peck of sexual abuse beginning when he was 15. He said the abuse was “extensive” and “brutal.”

“Think of the worst thing that someone could do to somebody as a sexual assault, and that’ll answer your question,” he said.

Brian Peck is not related to Bell’s co-star Josh Peck. However, because they share a common last name, Peck has been attacked on social media. Per Deadline, Drake posted a video on TikTok to clarify things and defend his former screen partner.

“I’ve noticed a lot of comments on some of Josh’s TikToks and some of his posts,” Bell said. “I just want to let you guys know that this is really, you know, processing this and going through this is a really emotional time, and a lot of it’s very, very difficult. So not everything is put out to the public.”

“But I just want you guys to know that he has reached out to me and it’s been very sensitive. But he has reached out to to talk with me and help me work through this. And has been really, really great. So just wanted to let you guys know that and to take it a little easy on him.”

In the years since Drake & Josh’s finale, Peck and Bell have not been particularly close. At one point, Peck referred to their lack of communication as a “dirty little secret,” which led to Peck not inviting Bell to his wedding, setting off a backlash against him. The pair eventually patched things up.

Man I’m glad I don’t have to be able to prove to the internet that I’m still friends with coworkers from 25 years ago, because those fuckers all sucked.

I don’t even like the ones I have now. And it probably wouldn’t be too difficult for someone to definitively prove it.

  • iggypoops-av says:

Good think Gregory Peck is dead or else people would be mistakenly sending him abuse too.

  • bonerland-av says:

I would guess 90% of the commenter know Peck isn’t related, but think that makes the abuse extra hilarious.

“who says he was abused by former Nickelodeon dialogue coach Brian Peck.”Bell isn’t just saying Brian Peck abused him, Peck was convicted of abusing him, you fucking asshole.

I’ll admit that I’m interested in him being in the next movie, having fallen upwards in the time since GB1.

  • ryanlohner-av says:

Well, there’s also the little matter that Josh was fully aware of what Brian was doing and did fuck all about it, even mocking Drake in public.

  • gterry-av says:

Wow, the AV Club is getting so much mileage out of Quiet on the Set someone might think that Olivia Wilde was directing those Nickelodeon shows.

  • kikaleeka-av says:

Part of the attacks have been related to a TikTok that Josh Peck made which people misinterpreted as a dismissal of Bell, when it was actually just a meme that had nothing to do with this situation at all.

  • dibbl-av says:

Funny, it wasn’t long ago the internet hated Drake Bell and loved Josh Peck. That certainly flipped around in the last week.

  • mr-rubino-av says:

I must have been too old for this show when it was around but it sure must have been something if the Internet is so desperate to force interaction between the leads when one has seemingly managed to, somehow, make it out the other side and become a well-adjusted individual.
