For the second time this year, we’re in the Emmy Awards grind. The delayed 2023 ceremony took place just this January, with the regularly scheduled one occurring in the fall. As for the latter, the 2024 Emmys have some stiff competition thanks to returning favorites such as Hacks, Abbott Elementary, and The Crown, as well as new hits like Shōgun and Fallout.
A few notes for those keeping score: FX might just make history if its originals win in the three top categories: Outstanding Drama, Comedy, and Limited Series. Will Shōgun, The Bear, and Fargo lead the cable network to glory? Or will Reservation Dogs do it instead? (Please, TV gods, don’t let that beautiful show go off into the sunset without getting the recognition it deserves.) Also, it’s not the strongest year for network TV, a common recent trend. And Netflix has some strong odds this time around because of Baby Reindeer and the excellent Ripley.
Before we get into it, here are the housekeeping details: The 76th Primetime Emmys are scheduled for September 15 on ABC. The eligibility period is for TV shows that aired from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024, voting for nominations is from June 13 to 24, with the announcement following on July 17.

If there were a surprise, though, it would be a big franchise like Loki, Ahsoka, or Star Trek: The Next Generation.
That last one would be quite the surprise, yes.
(But seriously, Dark Winds would be a good surprise entry here, even if the ending of the season was a bit anticlimactic, and some kudos to Zahn McClarnon would be nice to see.)
Reservation dogs and the fine actors in that show should win as much as possible. It is reprehensible that they have not won more.
It would be cool if as predicted Devery Jacobs gets a nomination though it almost seems unfair to single her or anyone out from the cast of Reservation Dogs as they are all so good (Pauline Alexis as Willie Jack is probably my favorite) Also the US Ghosts is my favorite current comedy & I would love any acknowledgement that it exists
Yes Pauline is also my favorite.
Did Mr. and Mr. Smith get any better because I bailed after three or four episodes. It didn’t strike me as award worthy.
I’m on board with the praise for Reservation Dogs, The Other Two, and Invincible, but Justified: City Primeval was bad. Major disappointment.
I’d be fine with acting Emmys for Fielder and Stone but the ending killed a lot of my enthusiasm for the show.
very dumb thing to be bothered by but the other two wouldn’t even qualify this year… its final season even got a writing nom last year
Although Vampire shows, etc have never been my go to, I randomly started watching season 1 of “Interview With The Vampire” last year, and have since gotten my husband and friends hooked! I am hoping for at least one of the major acting noms for the 3 main vampires (Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, Baily Bass) and Eric Bogosian as the interviewer Danny Mulloy as well. They have all done absolutely stellar work! Otherwise, of the shows you have highlighted here (that I have) seen, Fargo is my fav!
