Errol Morris to try again with making a fictional film

Aux Features Film

Oscar-winning documentarian Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line, The Fog Of War) is again trying his hand at narrative film. Deadline reports that Morris will helm the new production Holland, Michigan, described as “a suburban thriller laced with black humor” from first-time screenwriter Andrew Sodroski. Not much else is known about it at this point—though it is named for a small Midwestern city that really does feature tulips and windmills—but seeing as it’s a thriller, presumably it will again provide opportunity for Morris to draw on his previous career as a private eye in the ’80s. Morris, whose last fictional film was 1991’s The Dark Wind, most recently tried branching beyond documentaries with Freezing People Is Easy, based on a segment from Ira Glass’s This American Life, and set to star Paul Rudd. That project now appears to be on hold. Or, deep freeze.
