Welcome to Development Hell, the fiery pit into which we fling recent developments in casting, distribution, and everything else that’s new and mildly interesting in the Boschian phantasmagoria of the entertainment industry.

It’s hot as hell out today, which means we need to cut right to the chase, and cool off with some refreshing casting and development news. (Especially if it happens to relate to ice-powered queens or princesses.)

  • Today, in ice-powered queen or princess news: Casting is moving forward on Disney’s Frozen 2, with word that Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown are both in talks to star in the sequel to the blockbuster animated hit. Wood and Brown are both killing it in the world of TV right now; both of them just scored Emmy nominations, Wood for her role on Westworld, and Brown for a guest-star stint on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. • Speaking of Disney roles, Willem Dafoe has signed on for a starring job in the company’s upcoming live-action film Togo. Based on the famous 1925 Nome Serum Run—also the basis of the movie Balto—the film is scheduled to be one of several digital-only offerings on the company’s planned subscription streaming service. • Per Variety: Pam Grier and Alisha Boe have both joined the cast of Diane Keaton’s cheerleading comedy Poms. Boe is probably best known for her role on 13 Reasons Why; Grier is presumably best known for being Pam Goddamn Grier.
  • Finally, Under The Skin director Jonathan Glazer has at long last announced his follow-up to the unsettling 2013 horror film, with SlashFilm revealing that he’s working on a film related in some way to the Holocaust. Set for a 2020 release, the untitled film will reportedly take place at Auschwitz, and will focus not just on the victims in the camps, but on “the cold, damnable indifference of bystanders” that allowed them to be placed there.
