Feeling a little off after months of being (more or less) stuck inside? Pity poor Mr. Slausen (Chuck Connors), the roadside museum owner so lonely, he lives with a house full of automatons and mannequins in the offbeat 1979 PG-rated slasher Tourist Trap. Actually, on second thought, it’s up for grabs whether to feel sorry for Mr. Slausen, given that thorny little issue of all the teenagers he murders to add to his menagerie of lifeless companions. But now you can decide that question for yourself, as The A.V. Club is partnering with Full Moon Features to give away five copies of the Tourist Trap “Vintage VHS” boxed set.

The packaging for Full Moon’s new release looks like a classic VHS clamshell, but inside you’ll find both a DVD and a Blu-ray of the uncut, digitally remastered film, plus a Mr. Slausen action figure you can talk to when the isolation gets to be a little too much. To enter to win one of five boxed sets, email us at [email protected] by 12 PM CT on Friday, September 11 with the subject line “Tourist Trap” and your complete U.S. mailing address (no P.O. Boxes, sorry). We’ll pick winners tomorrow afternoon, and notify winners by email.

I think I was 8 when this came out, and the commercial scared the crap outta me. The only thing that scared me worse around that time was the commercial for Magic, with that damn dummy.

I saw it on the late late show in the very early 80’s when I was 9, 10 and it absolutely scared the crap out of me. I want to say I saw it on ‘Chiller’ theater on the old WPIX antenna TV channel. Re-watching it with the Rifftrax treatment recently helped.

That reminds me, I watched Phantasm for the first time with my dad on the CBS Late Movie when I was 10, and it scared the fuck outta me. Scarred for life. But I loved it.

Oh man, me too! I can remember circling horror films in TV guide for the week that I would plot to stay up and watch. The local stations had the better cheap jack horror, but CBS could surprise you. To this day I still love those old promo bumpers…

WTF? I’m both pleased and confused by this post’s existence. When I saw the headline I thought ‘oh, looks like they made another movie called Tourist Trap, ‘cause there’s no way they’re talking about the horror movie’… kind of like how for years when I saw any post about “Neighbors” I briefly wondered if it was the John Belushi movie.

I remember seeing this on TV when I was a kid and it absolutely scaring the shit out of me. Never looked at Chuck Connors the same way after that.

Even for ‘79,  I can’t believe this movie got a PG rating.
