As Ryan Murphy turns Netflix into the Ryan Murphy Network, the creator’s OG shows continue to fester on his previous home of FX. And, per FX head John Landgraf, that won’t be stopping anytime soon. His face half-cast in shadow, a sharp grin splitting flesh, Landgraf sent a tremor of dread throughout the TCAs when he announced that American Horror Story, the exhausting anthology series Murphy debuted back in 2011, has been renewed for three more seasons. And that’s saying nothing of the upcoming 10th season, which will air later this year. So, basically, we, the final girls of FX’s viewership, need to survive at least four more seasons of this show. Folks, our odds of survival are slim.

The good news is that last year’s season, the slasher-aping 1984, eschewed the veneer of self-seriousness that’s plagued the show in past seasons by joyously embracing camp and cliche. One hopes that will continue to be the case and that Murphy and co-creator Brad Falchuk won’t, who knows, do a season about Trump’s impeachment trial or some garbage.

Oh god, we just spoke that into existence, didn’t we?

Because it’s OK to have some fun, B-grade shows on TV.Edit:  Oh, you were answering a question, not asking one.  My bad.

I have the exact same question. But I think because it exists in the weird space of being perfectly mediocre. That’s just kind of where it’s leveled out after season 3. It could go 20 seasons and people would be like, “oh THAT show is still on?” Interesting.”

1984 was pretty entertaining overall. I like AHS, but its best when it embraces the ridiculous.

You don’t have to watch it. Not every season is great. But I like it and I am happy to continue to watch it. Not only is it a show filled joyous camp and occasional gruesome horror bits but it also features a lot of LGBTQ+ actors that normally don’t see a lot of screen time.

AHS is legit my favorite show. I am very pleased by this news. Screw the haters

i’m a little confused, because i thought Apocalypse would be the last season. it even had a lot of full circle, conclusive scenes. then 1984 came out (haven’t seen yet) and now all this. not complaining, just curious.wish they would move to netflix or amazon, i don’t watch commercials anymore and FX has terrible stream quality.

      • aldalin-av says:

Apocalypse was great! AHS84 was fairly standalone story wise but there were some references to past seasons and at least 1 character who appeared in Hotel.

I bought this last season on fandango or whatever through my Roku TV, and it was pretty great. No commercials and all episodes available as they come out.

The fact that it’s an anthology helps a lot! I loved 1-3, hated 4-6 but adored the last season! The fact that the show self references and veers between genres and tones means it’s got mass appeal, and they know that every season will appeal t someone, if not everyone.

It’s kind of their job to watch it though.

Based on past experience, I’ll probably try two of these upcoming seasons and stick with one of those until the finale.

Sometimes it just seems like a vehicle for who Ryan Murphy is fucking this year. Finn Whitrock, Cody Fern, etc…

“Murphy and co-creator Brad Falchuk won’t, who knows, do a season about Trump’s impeachment trial or some garbage.”You’re saying you can’t see the potential of a horror story where Melania is some kind of ancient witch-queen whose magical wish for power monkey-paws her into a marriage with Trump, and then desperately tries to use sorcery to arrange his impeachment?
