There will probably be a Frozen 4, by the way

If there’s one rule of the modern movie business, it’s “milk a good thing for all it’s worth.” Disney’s animated divisions have traditionally been fertile ground for new and innovative storytelling, but they’re now heavily in the business of sequels. Earlier this year, the company’s CEO Bob Iger announced a new Toy Story, a new Zootopia, and a new Frozen. And, oh, by the way, now there’s already another new Frozen.

Frozen 3 is in the works, and there might be a Frozen 4 in the works too,” Iger teased Thursday during an appearance on Good Morning America. “But I don’t have much to say about those films right now. [Director] Jenn Lee, who created the original Frozen and Frozen 2, is hard at work with her team at Disney animation on not one but actually two stories.”

Don’t mistake the announcement of a fourth Frozen to mean that the third Frozen is coming any time soon. Last month, Lee didn’t even know what role she was playing in the production of Frozen 3. “I don’t know what I’m doing on it yet—I’m not doing nothing—except doing what I do now, which is we work on every project as a team and I’m in there with creative. But with Frozen, just a little bit more.” Lee, who is now Disney’s Chief Creative Officer, said at the BFI London Film Festival, could only say that she was “blown away” and “so excited” about where the project is so far.

There is one little tidbit of additional information to go along with Iger’s surprise reveal. Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who wrote the songs for the first two Frozens with husband Robert Lopez, confirmed on Twitter/X that they’d be returning for the next two. “Well, I’ve been quiet here for a while. But yeah, this,” she posted. Get excited, Frozen heads!
