There hasn’t been a new The Handmaid’s Tale season on Hulu since 2022, so if you’re missing the close-ups on Elisabeth Moss’ face, there’s a solution. The actor leads FX’s upcoming limited series, The Veil. At the 2024 Television Critics Association’s (TCA) winter press tour, the cable network announced it would premiere the drama in April.

Created by Peaky Blinders Steven Knight, The Veil is a thriller about mission controller Imogen Salter (Moss) who engages in a deadly back-and-forth with another woman while on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London. Imogen’s job is to get her to reveal her secrets before thousands of lives are lost. The Veil looks at how the CIA and French DGSE work together to avert disaster.

The cast includes Josh Charles, Dali Benssalah, Yumna Marwan, and Haluk Bilginer. The Veil premieres on April 30 with two episodes, with the remaining four airing weekly.

Another big show coming to FX is Clipped, from Pose and Y: The Last Man’s Nina Jacobson. It unpacks the true story of Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne), the LA Clippers coach in 2013. The team’s then-owner, Donald Sterling (Ed O’Neill), was a racist bully. His arrogance is revealed to the public amid a power struggle between his wife of 60-plus years, Shelly (Jacki Weaver), and his mistress, V. Stiviano (Cleopatra Coleman). The show is based on ESPN’s 30 for 30 podcast, The Sterling Affairs.

FX also announced at TCA it will bring American Horror Story: Delicate back for its final four episodes on April 3. Let’s see what kind of wonders Ryan Murphy, Emma Roberts, and Kim Kardashian have cooked up for the finale. Meanwhile, Welcome To Wrexham’s eight-part third season launches on April 18. The sports docuseries documents the behind-the-scenes of the Welsh football club co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

I don’t watch a great deal of television but I did watch The Handmaid’s Tale because I am a huge Margaret Atwood fan and found it to be disturbingly possible and very well done.  Elisabeth Moss has done such a great job of becoming the character she portrays I find it hard to imagine her in another role…especially as there is more Handmaid’s to come.  I hope I am wrong (she is very, very good) but I wonder how actors that are typecast or seen in a particular role long after that role is over manage.  Aaron Paul/Jesse Pinkman comes immediately to mind, as does Katee Sackhoff/Starbuck and Satan/Satan from South Park.

I can see your point but I think Elisabeth Moss has enough quality projects under her belt that she doesn’t really have to worry about being typecast or associated with a single role. The Invisible Man, Her Smell, Shining Girls, and, of course, Peggy from Mad Men, she has too much good stuff on her resume to just pin her down on one character.

Yes, Moss’s take on an abusive religious cult was excellent. Why, its almost she’s a member of one in real life!

        Oh right…!…she’s one of those!

I wish people would mention this every time. Having celebrities bolster the legitimacy of the church of tounge kiss 7 year olds was part of Hubbard’s strategy and it worked great! Where’s Shelly?

“The Sterling Affairs” was great. Tough to listen to at times, but very instructive. I (like most fans, I’d guess) only knew Sterling as a cheapskate laughingstock but that podcast really went into the depths of how much of a piece of absolute garbage that man is.

I eagerly await being absolutely disgusted by the Vince McMahon projects that are surely in the works. Another horrendous shitstain that defers to be exposed as much as possible.

THAT’S your headline, AVClub???  I mean, “Lift ‘The Veil’.” was RIGHT THERE.

I forget who commented this, but I love it:“Elisabeth Moss has one acting face: ‘I think I have to throw up!’”
