Now that HBO’s second biggest show, Euphoria, ended its second season, the premium network needs something to keep people tuning in. So what’s the next best thing after Game Of Thrones, its top show? More Game Of Thrones, of course. Prequel series House Of The Dragon now has a premiere date: Sunday, August 21.

The show’s first season will have 10 episodes.

The show is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, that details the lineage of House Targaryen. Paddy Considine stars as King Viserys, who is described as a “warm, kind, and decent man” who “wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy.”

Matt Smith stars as Viserys’ brother Prince Daemon, who is a “peerless warrior and dragon rider” who “possesses the true blood of the dragon.”

Emma D’Arcy stars as the king’s daughter, who, though she is of pure Valyrian blood and “born with everything,” has the disadvantage of not being a man, so she cannot succeed to the throne.

Olivia Cooke also plays a key role as Alicent Hightower, who is “the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms” and “close to the king and his innermost circle.”

Alicent is the daughter of Ser Otto Hightower, the Hand Of The King, who is played by Rhys Ifans. Otto’s duty is to protect the king from his brother Daemon, who is in line for the throne.

Game Of Thrones co-creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff recently confirmed they have no involvement with the new series—which will either bum out fans or make them feel very relieved. Instead, the show has George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal credited as co-creators, with Condal and Miguel Sapochnik serving as showrunners. The series should be in good hands, since Sapochnik directed many Game Of Thrones episodes, including the Emmy-winning “Battle Of The Bastards.”

Running up against the LOTR series. I see HBO woke up and said “how can we be a right messy bitch today”

Gonna be real easy, the LOTR series already looks shit by the looks of it, for this one we didn’t get as many details as for LOTR yet, so we can still assume for the best.

I think I’m one of about three people on Earth who will admit being excited about this. One of my concerns is that I don’t know if this will get the same slack that Game of Thrones received when it debuted. I re-watched the first season of GoT a few years back, and while it was never bad in the way that actually bad television is bad, it was certainly pretty rough at a lot of points. I think folks (quite rightly) forgave the show those early flaws because everyone was just excited to see the story on screen, and so it had the chance to grow and improve and make a run.I worry that the knives are going to be out for House of The Dragon from the beginning, and critics are going to be really eager to work out their rage from the last season of the parent show. So if it stumbles a bit out of the gate, as many (most?) shows do, is it going to get the same chance to right the ship as GoT got?

So could you say that you are excited that summer is coming?

tough to say how critical consensus would move the needle either direction for a mega-property like this. while they aren’t in the same underdog position at the first season i think the general public will probably go easy on it…it all comes down to whether or not it’s any good, i guess.

Any news from beyond The Wall? Is the Night King stirring up trouble?

  • dacostabr-av says:

Looking forward to it. I think this had the most potential out of all the possible spin offs.

Anything on Winds of Winter?  It had to be said.

I’d much rather see Arya exploring the lands west of Westeros.

    try finger, but hole.

The most pressing question: will there be exposition prostitutes?

  • hiihtoloma-av says:

Still disappointed they went with this for a spin-off. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms spin-off would’ve had an actual chance to be its’ own thing.

I’m very excited to see this, as I loved Fire and Blood, I enjoy several of the actors involved and I’m just a big fan of high fantasy in general. In fact, this will be airing at the same time as Amazon Prime’s The Rings of Power, which means I’ll have two big-budget prestige high fantasy shows based on books I love airing at the same time! I just hope they’re both good, because it would be no fun if one of them was much better than the other (and I don’t even want to think about the possibility of them both being awful).
