Good Eats is almost back, and this trailer is looking as gloriously goofy as ever

Aux Features Coming Distractions

For many people—and especially those now forced to wade through a Food Network line-up over-leavened with cooking competitions, frosted tips, and the endless effort to defeat notorious grill monster Bobby Flay—there were few food shows more entertaining (or informative) than Alton Brown’s Good Eats. Fast-paced, conversational, and often gloriously stupid, Brown’s show taught cooking the way Beakman’s World taught science: Engagingly, and with as many doofy costumes as possible.

So, it is with great joy that we share the above trailer for the upcoming Good Eats revival project, which is set to return to Food Network on August 25. Brown may have lost some of his hair, but he doesn’t appear to have lost a step, and, from the iconic theme music, to the various dopey Monty Python references and inside-the-fridge camera angles, the show looks just as energetic as ever. (Plus, hey: The Lady Of The Refrigerator is back!)

He now looks amazingly like Walter White. Wonder if he’ll cook up any blue rock candy?

I know he did a candy episode already, but if he revisits it, the wardrobe dept. better put a porkpie hat on his head at some point.

In the original series, Lucky Yates was one of the regulars, filling various roles. Will he be back, and if so, will the show make any references to his subsequent role as Algernop Krieger on Archer?

Holy shit, this means I’m going to be watching something on Food Network for the first time in over a decade. When GE first premiered, I had just moved from the Atlanta-ish area, and so it was a nice bit of nostalgia seeing him utilize Atlanta landmarks like Harry’s. Hopefully he brings that back into the fold. (Well, except Harry’s, unfortunately.)

Ha! I scrolled down to ask if anyone knew whether he was still filming at Harry’s Farmers Market. It’s still around, by the way, over at 75 and Roswell Road, though now it’s pretty much just a Whole Foods with a different sign out front.ETA: No, it’s gone! Did some googling to find out their store hours, and it closed a year ago. Dammit.

I loved this show back in the day, but Alton’s work (and statements) since GE have made him about 100% less charming.

It’s true. But I decided some time ago – while pondering my affection for the works of H. P. Lovecraft – that if you can only love those who are perfect, ultimately you will love no one.

You may have to enlighten those of us who haven’t been paying attention to his activities outside of this show.

    • e1guapo-av says:

Please elaborate. I haven’t been keeping up.

I like cutthroat kitchen, because it’s just weird and silly to watch people try to cook on crooked grills or in sumo outfits. Or is it something else that bothers you?

  • wastelandhound-av says:

Can I just say how weird it’s been to see W (who, if memory serves, got the Good Eats job because she was AB’s physical therapist) in real movies and TV shows? Also, I don’t know whether my dad morphed into Alton Brown or Alton Brown morphed into my dad, but they look exactly the same now and it’s weirding me out.

    Huzzah!

This was my show! I can’t wait for this to start.  I liked the remixes (made me feel hella old,  seeing Young Alton) but I’m ready for new content.

Who thought more Alton Brown is a good idea? Biggest jerk in the culinary world.

  • GoonieGooGoo2-av says:

The fact that I have 242+ episodes of Good Eats recorded (I’m missing a Christmas special and maybe one episode) on a windows media center can attest to my love of the show. It MADE food network. What food network is now….. I can only smh. The show belongs on The Cooking Channel but I think they are trying to save Food Network.
