I went through a few seasons before I realized they weren’t just teasing him when they called him Mr. Hollywood.

Your article doesn’t make this clear, but four series of Junior Bake Off were made and aired on CBBC between 2011-2016. The news is that Channel 4 has decided to pick up the rights to it and start airing it in addition to GBBO (which may lead to it being picked up by Netflix and being available in the US for the first time, I suppose).I’ve watched the first of the earlier JBO series; it’s alright, entertaining mainly for the children’s various regional accents and for seeing Paul give pep talks to kids (I actually think he’s better at it than Mary). The baking is solid, though they make a mockery of the very concept of brownies and British adults remain perplexed by the concept of peanut butter.I haven’t watched more than that (the childrens’ show host guy was unbelievably grating) but I have been meaning to download series four, which I read has Nadiya from GBBO as a judge.

Please don’t ask the writers here to do any actual research. That’s not what the A.V. Club is about.

Yeah, hell no. Kiddie seasons of otherwise perfectly fine reality competition shows are the WORST. Ever seen the family season of Amazing Race? What about the pedophile’s wet dream that was the children’s season of So You Think You Can Dance? I actually watched one episode of that season of TAR, but I couldn’t make it through five minutes of the child porn version of SYTYCD without expecting Chris Hansen to walk in and tell me to take a seat. The most unintentionally funny and incredibly uncomfortable moment on The Amazing Race: Family Edition came on the first episode (which, again, was the only episode I watched) when the Black family (their last name was Black) finished last and was kicked off the show. See, the Black family were African-American, and it quickly became very odd hearing Phil address them as ‘the Black family’ at various points throughout the episode. Totally circumstantial, of course, but good god, so awkward. The episode sucked regardless, but I definitely think that occurrence played some kind of role in why I never went back to it.

I haven’t watched any of the shows you’re talking about but I do know that one of the most enjoyable things about the Bake Off is seeing people show competence, skill, and even brilliance at baking. Watching a kid make a decent pan of brownies while other kids mess up pans of brownies sounds very boring.

Is Noel Fielding even allowed to be around kids?
