Halle Berry might star in Kingsman 2

Aux Features Film

After a couple of years devoting her considerable, Oscar-winning talents to a TV show about robots, government conspiracies, and alien space babies, Halle Berry might be getting back into films. Specifically, she’s in talks for a supporting role in the sequel to Kingsman: Secret Service, last year’s blood-spattered spy pastiche from Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn. Based on a graphic novel from consistent comic-to-movie provider Mark Millar, the first film told the story of a young British man who fulfills the power fantasies of youths everywhere, by getting to hang out a bunch with Colin Firth. (He also becomes a secret agent.)

The sequel would see Berry step into a leadership role, playing the head of the CIA, possibly opposite a villainous Julianne Moore and a returning Taron Egerton. Weirdly, Berry, Millar, and Vaughn’s careers have all orbited, but never intersected, each other’s in the last few years: Vaughn directed X-Men: First Class, the only one of Fox’s mutant blockbusters Berry doesn’t appear in; meanwhile, Millar “cast” the actress as the physical model for one of the characters in Wanted, a role that went to Angelina Jolie in the 2008 film.

Berry’s last film role was 2014’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past; before that, she appeared in the tense 2013 thriller The Call. She was also one of several very good actors convinced to stain their careers with an appearance in the execrable Movie 43, a film that probably made a career as a TV-bound alien baby mama seem a lot more reasonable at the time.
