Mere weeks after Spyglass announced David Bruckner as the director of its David S. Goyer-produced Hellraiser reboot, HBO has announced that it, too, wants some of that sweet, sweet suffering.

Deadline reports that HBO is developing Hellraiser into a series with Halloween director David Gordon Green that will serve as an “elevated continuation and expansion of the well-established Hellraiser mythology.” Prestige Hellraiser, you say? Granted, anything would look elevated next to Hellraiser: Revelations, but we digress.

Deadline emphasizes that this isn’t a remake, and that the “past mythology” is “a given.” Pinhead, the pin-headed leader of the soul-destroying Cenobites, will remain at the center of the story, which, of course, has us wondering if Doug Bradley, who turns 66 this year, is ready for another round of cinematic acupuncture. Based on Clive Barker’s The Hellbound Heart, the series follows the Cenobites as they torture anyone unlucky enough to fuck with a puzzle box called the Lament Configuration.

We have but one request: Don’t forget Butterball.

Make it like True Detective, where each season follows a different set of Hellraisers and also the second season has Vince Vaughn in it and is bad.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this working out. The only thing is, like, Nightmare 3 didn’t have enough time in the dreamscape, I thought Hellraiser 2 was about right, find some way to tap into the potential of the other realms. Also, to some the cenobites are angels 🙂

I’m hopeful, but “worldbuilding” and “mythology” aren’t really good for horror. Good horror relies on “what the fuck is going on”, and falls apart when you start explaining things too much.

I wish it were on Showtime, because then I could do a “We have such sights to SHO you” gag. But it isn’t.I probably could have workshopped this into something for HBO, but I’m a little drunk right now.

I’m sure Danny McBride will be great as Pinhead.

Please retcon everything after 2 though. I don’t really want to know Pinhead’s origin at all, but I especially don’t want to know that he’s only around 100 years old (pretty much a baby for a cosmic evil) and was not that long ago just some guy.

Knowing HBO there will “insist” on women being full frontal.

Im cautiously optimistic.  The first movie was good, but was very cheaply filmed. I’d like to see a high def version.

This David Gordon Green character sure has had a weird career.

“Don’t forget Butterball.”Didn’t you hear? Butterball lost a ton of weight, bought a toupee and joined the Trump administration:

David S Goyer? I can’t wait to hear what disparaging things he has to say about Hellraiser fans.

I just hope it’s better than the vast, vast majority of Hellraiser media.Reading this makes me think of just how damn disappointing The Scarlet Gospels was. The guy who wrote Imajica, the Books of The Art(gimme #3 damnit!) and Weaveworld wrote that turd?

How in the world did this guy move from “George Washington” to the things he ended up doing??  Did he get hit in the head with a coconut?
