Carrie Bradshaw is back, signature Manolo heels and all. HBO Max released a first look at the Sex And The City reboot series, And Just Like That, featuring our Manhattan heroines Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis. They’re giving power, fashion, and wonderfully styled hair.

As happy as we are to see our leading ladies back in the saddle, there’s something just noticeably off with the image. As Vulture points out, with a simple zoom, it becomes apparent that someone carried out quite the photoshop job in order to put Nixon, Parker, and Davis all together on the streets of New York. Who knows why the three co-stars could not manage to take a photo together, but we’ll take it.

It’s difficult not to address the critical individual missing from the image, our dear firecracker Samantha Jones. It’s been known for a while that Kim Cattrall would not return as her character—who truly brought all of the sex to the city in the original series—but, the first look just brings all of that heartbreak back. However, we do get a look at (according to Parker herself) the fourth character in the reboot: the city of New York.

All of the leading lads from Sex And The City will revive their roles for And Just Like That…, including: Chris Noth as Mr. Big, David Eigenberg as Steve Brady, Evan Handler as Harry Goldenblatt, Willie Garson as Stanford Blatch, and Mario Cantone as Anthony Marentino. New cast member Sara Ramírez will play Che Diaz, a non-binary, queer, stand-up comedian and podcast host.

The 10-episode season joins Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s. Parker, Davis, and Nixon will executive produce alongside original series producer, writer, and director Michael Patrick King.

I sincerely hope they get shit ratings. Doing this without Samantha is like Happy Days with no Fonzi.

    • martianlaw-av says:

Or maybe it will be like Happy Days without older brother Chuck and nobody will notice.

      • laurenceq-av says:

Or it’ll be like Happy Days without Richie, which existed for several years, but which everyone agrees was pretty bad.

    • joe2345-av says:

It won’t be the same without her but frankly, Kim Cattrall has been acting like a bit of a dick in recent years

      • froot-loop-av says:

It all depends on who you believe. She claims that SJP is not what she seems and treated her like a mean girl during the series run. She was sick of pretending everything was cool and they were all best pals. I like it.

        • junwello-av says:

I don’t have a position on who was mean (my guess: everyone) but I’m a passionate believer in people being able to turn down jobs they don’t want.

        • skoc211-av says:

I tend to think it’s a little bit of both. I can definitely see SJP being a bit of a mean girl and Cattrall also being difficult. The fact that pretty much the entire cast is back for this and the remaining trio of ladies have all been pretty vocally supportive of one another over the years leads me to believe SJP just a little more than Cattrall.

I wasn’t the biggest Sex and the City fan but I watched it some when it originally aired. Samantha was easily the worst/least interesting character. Plus what do you with a character whose sole motivation was “likes to fuck” now that she’s in her mid-60s?

    • igotlickfootagain-av says:

You weren’t complaining when I got you *this* close to Chachi.

  • luasdublin-av says:

Mr. Big,”I’ve always thought if the show was gender reversed , it’d be like one of the characters dating a woman called Ms MassiveMelons. Also the show would have been cancelled two episodes in but hey!

    • tormentedthoughts3rd-av says:

But that’s not why he’s called Mr. Big,And isn’t that just Entourage which went on for 8 seasons and movie?

      • merk-2-av says:

        *Charlie Sheen high-fives Jon Cryer*

      • skoc211-av says:

He was Mr. Big because he was essentially supposed to be a Donald Trump type tycoon. Makes me wonder if we’ll find out that Mr. Big went into politics…However he’s not to be confused with Mr. Too Big who was so named for the fact that not even Samantha Jones could handle his overly generous endowment.

    • galdarn-av says:

Yeah, you’re right. Married…With Childen is not a show that existed for eleven seasons on network TV.

New cast member Sara Ramírez will play Che Diaz, a non-binary, queer, stand-up comedian and podcast host.Che Diaz is giving me Cousin Oliver / Roy from The Simpsons vibes.

    • birdhammock-av says:

Yeah, that sentence is the most 2021 thing I’ve read all year.

    • joestammer-av says:

The production meeting went like this:
Exec Prod: How can we update the show for the current times?
Writer 1: Why not include a queer person? Or how about someone who is non-binary?Writer 2: Podcasts are hot right now… how about a podcaster?Exec Prod: Make all of that one person and we’re good.

    • marshalgrover-av says:

Kinda reminds me of that sitcom from a few years ago where Zach Braff’s job was the owner of a podcast network or something.

    • anathanoffillions-av says:

I think they are hoping for Paget Brewster in Season 6 vibes

    • forgotmoa-av says:

I don’t mind giving us non-binary or trans characters, but that sentence sure does sound like someone is creating a parody of “woke” Hollywood.

    • fishymcdonk-av says:

      more like Poochie!

  • 92119211-av says:

When the Golden Girls came out in 1985, Rue McLanahan was 51yrs old.
Sarah Jessica Parker turned 56 in March.

    • detectivefork-av says:

Without Samantha, they should all just buy and operate a hotel.

    • gildie-av says:

I think McLanahan was playing a character who was at least in their late 50s at the start of the show and the hair and clothes certainly aged her up. Even if they weren’t trying to do that I think 80s hairstyles and big shoulder outfits tend to make every woman look older.

      • junwello-av says:

I was blown away watching Moonlighting a few years ago and realizing everything Cybill Shepherd wore is now only acceptable for over-65s (nightgown-robe matched sets with shoulder pads …).

      • youngjeune1-av says:

I don’t think so. There’s an episode where Blanche takes a home pregnancy test, and it comes back positive. In the end, she isn’t, but is going through menopause…I think the character is supposed to be late 40’s…

    • laurenceq-av says:

      And Estelle Getty was 42!

  • liebkartoffel-av says:

“The 10-episode season joins Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.” The AV Club has cribbed this bit of ad copy before in describing the show, and, again, if your life is even more complicated and drama-filled in your 50s than your 30s then you’re not doing it right.

    • atchins0nt0p3ka-av says:

Um, this is kind of ignorant. Lots of people in their fifties are dealing with parents getting sick, kids going to college, the onset of health issues, career transitions. Not to mention divorce and remarriage.

      • liebkartoffel-av says:

I can guarantee you that’s not the sort of “complicated” the show is talking about (and I was responding to), though.

        • laurenceq-av says:

But everyone of these characters is into settled, long-term relationships now and have been for well over a decade. So the same kind of “complications” we’re used to them dealing with won’t be part of the show.

    • gildie-av says:

Sex in the City was always really about gay men and from what I’ve seen a lot of urbanite middle aged gay men live their 50s like they were still in their 30s (and good for them if they want to, why not?)

      • jomahuan-av says:

o great, gay men writing about women… so bring on the hot flashes and vaginal dryness jokes, i guess.

    • galdarn-av says:

Yeah, I bet life in 2021 is a lot less complicated for people in their 50s than it was for them in the fucking 1990s.

  • drkschtz-av says:

Is Kristin Davis wearing a Kristin Davis Halloween mask?

  • slander-av says:

All of the leading lads from Sex And The City will revive their roles

    No Aidan? No sale.

  • djclawson-av says:

    Everything about this is bad.

  • secretagentman-av says:

Were people chomping at the bit (not a horse joke) for this show to come back? Was there some big fan movement I wasn’t aware of?

  • happyinparaguay-av says:
  • bc222-av says:

If this image is indeed Photoshopped, I hoping it turns out that in the entire 10 eps, the three of them are never in the same frame together. Just quick cuts of them in conversation.
