In 2015, former The Girls Next Door star Holly Madison dropped some big bombshells on what her relationship with late Playboy magnate Hugh Hefner was like in her debut memoir Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny. She detailed the alleged emotional abuse she endured while being one of his live-in girlfriends, from being coerced into being part of orgies, to Hefner implementing a strict 9 P.M. curfew. Madison broke things off with Hefner in 2008, and her announcement of leaving the mansion aired on The Girls Next Door.

On Friday, Sony announced via The Hollywood Reporter that it’s teaming up with Holly Madison for a limited series based on her New York Times best-selling memoir. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’s Samara Weaving is starring as the former Playboy Bunny, but no word on who’s playing Hefner. There is no network attached to the series yet and no other details have been released.

Laid creator Marieke Hardy is writing the series, while Easy A’s Will Gluck, Woke’s Richard Schwartz, Masters of Sex’s Judith Verno, and Madison herself are executive producers.

Now, call my cynical, but maybe getting in to a polygamous relationship with a titty rag magnate probably should have been the first red flag that it wasn’t going to be a fairy tale.

Yeah, this is a tough one. I don’t doubt that Hugh Hefner was a creep with his numerous live-in girlfriends all young enough to be his great grandchildren, but Holly so clearly wanted to marry him for his money and seems pissed that it wasn’t as simple as she’d hoped.

I can’t believe I remember this, but I had a roommate who was an avid watcher of that horrible “The Girls Next Door” show back in the day. The only thing I remember about Holly was that she always seemed to be angling for Hef to marry her and have kids with her. That always baffled me, because what about Hef suggested that he was at all interested in that kind of life? Nothing. And he was always very clear about that. I mean, when Holly announced the end of their relationship, Hef’s response was, “I guess if Holly says it’s over, it’s over.” What a guy, that Hef. She has since said that she felt controlled in the relationship and that it was akin to Stockholm syndrome, which I can believe. But it doesn’t negate the fact that every single second of that show was icky.

I think Christopher Plumber is a shoo in to play Hefner.

John Cena with some aging/de-muscle-ing CGI could play Hefner.

“Holly Madison” has got to be a stage name, but I’m not entirely sure I want to Google it to find out.

Considering in the pic above he looks a bit like Fire Marshall Bill, isn’t Jim Carey a shoe-in?

Not the House Bunny sequel I was looking for jk I wasn’t really looking for that.Dennis Quaid could probably pull it off, but he’s a little too obviously smarmy at times. I can think of someone who would also probably do a good job because Hefner had a happy go lucky charm outwardly, but everyone would hate it. Tom Hanks, and he looks enough like him just a little extra make-up.

Cliff Robertson played Hefner in Star 80. I know he’s long gone, but — he was quite good in that movie.

Is Dabney Coleman still around? He was pretty convincing as a Hefner stand-in in the Dragnet movie. Who are we kidding though? Central Casting is not exactly going to come up empty when the call goes out for “older Hollywood star who can play a creep”Hefner is the counterargument to the “the creep is always the virginal  loser” trope. Dude got laid multiple times a day for decades and was still creepy AF.

      Woody Allen? Sorry, wrong story.

A book about someone on a reality show whose reality show focused on the life contained in the book is getting a show made about her life which was already on a reality tv show about her life which….

Samara Weaving is absolutely lovely in real life.

So a remake of The Girls Next door, but less trashy?
