Parents of toddlers most likely know at least one song from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. The quick little ditties are written to worm their way into children’s heads in an effort to teach about everything from hand-washing to taking care of a rabbit. Of course, parents often catch the aural shrapnel, to varying degrees of earworm-ish insanity.
The A.V. Club talked to the three creators of all of Daniel Tiger’s catchiest tunes. Collectively known as VooDoo Highway Music, Graeme Cornies, James Chapple, and Brian Pickett sat down in their home studios to tell us about how they have both adapted Fred Rogers’ original, “snappy new” melodies and created their own motifs, all in service of the youth of today.

As little kid shows go, Danny T is about as good as it gets and the songs are a big part of it
I was so sick of DT and prayed my toddler would want to start watching something else.He chose PJ Masks and PAW Patrol. What a fool I was!
Yeah I hear that- I didnt appreciate DT until I was suddenly home all day and experiencing other options. I’m glad shes stuck (so far) with DT.Athough, this may make me a bad parent but I’ve discovered she doesnt know when I put headphones on and listen to a podcast while we sit on the couch and watch shows together and thus wont get mad
This is next level parenting and I salute you.
You need to try to pivot that youngin onto Bluey with the quickness. It’s pretty good as far as those shows go. I’ve actually laughed real laughs at some of the episodes.
Those shows are cancer.
Edit – Get them to watch Bluey.
Which channel is Bluey on?
Disney + or Youtube for streaming, I think ABC for television.
NIGHT IN THE CITY.
When a brave band of heroes . . . Where are these children’s parents? Has no one noticed the ill effects of them not getting any sleep during daytime? Is my child’s love of Romeo because Romeo is coded as gay (this is my hope) or because my child is a budding psychopath (this is my fear)? All questions I ponder during my endless 800th rewatching of the episodes.
My kid recently discovered Charlie’s Colorforms City and that song is stuck in my head all the time now. It’s another Angela Santomero joint.
Are those curtains made from tiger skins?
Daniel: Portrait of a Serial Killer
this is a bit highbrow for the AV club audience, no?
