It’s been over 20 years since the release of Wes Anderson’s comedy-drama starring Danny Glover, Gene Hackman, Anjelica Huston, Bill Murray, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson and Owen Wilson, the latter of whom cowrote the screenplay. Anderson and Wilson got an Academy Award nomination for their screenplay about three gifted siblings who experience numerous failures in adulthood after finding great success in their youth. Gene Hackman earned a Golden Globe nomination for his performance as the eccentric family patriarch.

I need to re-watch both Blade Runners. I wonder if the Blade Runner animated interlude shorts will be offered.  Although, I could find those on Youtube, I suppose.  I thought they did some nice worldbuilding with which to frame 2049.

Just a reminder that if you minimize your screen and then pull the browser to make it a teensy bit narrower than that, you can avoid the horrid slideshows.

The streaming rights to the movies are fascinating to me. The Blade Runner movies in particular have moved from Netflix to HBO Max t0 Hulu and back again so often.

But it’s good though because, similar to if you have cable and you pay for HBO but not Showtime, or vice versa, you can kind of wait for the movie you want to get to the one you pay for.

Check out the original 1997 Norwegian version of Insomnia with Stellan Skarsgard. It’s better in every way than the 2002 US remake. (I think it’s available on FreeVee)

I hadn’t heard of Rogue until just now. I encourage everyone to check out the linked trailer just for the way it suddenly tone shifts from generic military action movie to cgi lioness monster movie about halfway through. I assume the lioness is supposed to be a metaphor for Fox’s character or something but it comes off as very bonkers, though maybe that’s because I watched it on mute so didn’t hear any dialog potentially leading up to the reveal.

Gumshoe flicks where the protagonist is treated like a punching bag by people who won’t even explain why need to really be deeply charming or funny or something, but LAST LOOKS is none of those things. It’s just bad.

For the life of me I can’t understand why Blade Runner 2049 is never streaming in 4K on any of these services. I had to rent the 4K version through Google Play. Worth it, in my opinion, as the “HD” version looks muddy.

The Blade Runner movies have such great visuals and moods! I really wish the stories held up to any sort of scrutiny, but they are by far the weakest part of the movies. 2049 is also insanely too long! Jared Leto’s character should have been cut completely out of the movie.

I wish Danny Glover had been in more of Wes Anderson’s films. He has a mix of awkwardness and gravitas that is a really good fit for Anderson’s work. Plus, those films could generally stand to have a few more non-white people.
