Hulu renews Futurama, which will bring the repeatedly canceled show to season 14
After being killed so many times, Futurama has become unkillable
Aux News FuturamaWho would’ve thought, even a few years ago, that Futurama would not only still be on but that it would’ve made it to 14 seasons over the course of 20-odd years? Who knows, maybe by 2050 or so, the show will have even made it to 20 seasons! Either way, Hulu seems committed to keeping Fry, Leela, and Bender employed for at least a little longer, with the soon-to-be-wholly-Disney-owned streamer announcing that it has renewed its Futurama revival for two additional seasons—which will bring the show to a somewhat unbelievable 14 seasons.
Futurama aired its first Hulu revival season over the summer, and both the best and worst thing you could say about the new show was that it was still Futurama. It hadn’t really evolved, but it also didn’t really need to, and anyone who just wanted more Futurama was going to come away from the new episodes exactly as satisfied as they would’ve hoped to be. A second revival season (season 12) is set to air in 2024, meaning the show will still live on for quite a while thanks to this two-season pick-up.
For those who have been frozen in a tube for the last 23 years, Futruama is about a pizza delivery boy named Fry who got cryogenically frozen in 1999 and then woke up 1,000 years later to a world that his humorously different—and humorously not-so-different!—from the one he left. He’s friends with a robot and in love with a cyclops and his doctor is a horrible, grotesque, unlovable lobster monster. Also, since time sort of progresses normally on the show and the new Hulu seasons took place in 3023, he has maybe lived in the future for longer than he ever lived in the past? That’s a weird “wanna feel old” potentially true factoid, huh?

And after all, why not Zoidberg?
A select few understand the real power of Crustacean/Human love.
Since they once did an episode where the show was reimagined as different Saturday morning cartoons, I’d like one where it’s reimagined as more modern cartoons, like a Rick & Morty version of Futurama.
The recent season was a little boring at times. Hopefully they punch up the writers
The new episodes were…okay. Very interestingly, it felt more like an ensemble piece than the “Fry, Bender, Leela Show” of the past. The pandemic episode was extremely bad, though.
Outside of the anthology episode I pretty much enjoyed them all.
That anthology episode was so mediocre. Those used to show real bursts of creativity and playfulness, but now it feels like they just keep doing them out of weary obligation.
That one was formatted so strangely to me. The weird framing plot was odd, and the commercial breaks should have happened between each segment, not in the middle of them.
Hopefully they beef up the writers room in a series way. Outside of the final episode, this most recent season was pretty darn bad. I’ve pretty much liked everything Futurama has done, even the Comedy Central seasons that the fandom beats up on some. The new Hulu season though? Ooof. It was the most bland, basic imitation of Futurama. It lacked jokes and decent plots, most of the episodes consisting of “hey, remember this character?” and that’s about it.
I tried and the first two episodes were okay but it got awful in a hurry. Sweet zombie Jesus, just let it die.
Neutral news, everybody!
You missed an easy slam dunk for the article title, “Good News Everyone! Futurama has been renewed for 2 more seasons.”
Huh. I guess I’m the only one that liked the new episodes.
Most people did. They just don’t comment here.
