The Captain Marvel movie may have added another villain to its ranks, as Deadline is reporting that Humans star Gemma Chan has signed on to play Minn-Erva, an alien geneticist better known as Doctor Minerva. In the comics, Minn-Erva is a member of the Kree race and a scientist who occasionally butted heads with Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel—who was also Kree and will be played by Jude Law in the movie. We don’t know what Minn-Erva’s specific role will be in the movie, as comic book adaptations have a long history of lifting character names and giving them to totally different people, but this should at least give Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers (the new Captain Marvel) someone to punch and/or talk to other than Ben Mendelsohn’s main villain and those lumpy-chinned Skrulls.
Captain Marvel is set to come out next March.
