Art director Adam Rowe has created a lot of distinct set pieces, from kill rooms on Criminal Minds to Parks And Recreation’s Pawnee/Eagleton Unity Concert stage. He’s built a massively complicated 360-degree stage for Rent: Live, and adapted intimate offices for Mad Men. The A.V. Club sat down with Rowe to talk about his role as a Hollywood art director—from what that actually is to the distinct challenges each new project brings.
