It seems like American Horror Story comes earlier and earlier every year

TV Lists What's On Tonight

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Tuesday, September 5. All times are Eastern.

American Horror Story (FX, 10 p.m.): We all know the signs: First it’s the commercials, then it seems like you can’t turn a corner without running into an image of a smiling fellow with a cherry-red nose. Before you know it, every other song on the radio is “The Name Game” or “Life On Mars?”, and it hits you: Even though it seems like we just put away last year’s American Horror Story decorations, it’s time for another round of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s creepshow pastiche. This year’s installment, subtitled Cult, is a post-election allegory populated by clowns, cults, and bees that puts Murphy muse Sarah Paulson through her paces as a woman whose anxieties are inflamed by the election of Donald Trump. On the flip side, Evan Peters plays the type of creep whose worst tendencies are emboldened by Trump, demonstrating that Paulson’s character has cause for alarm. Following tonight’s premiere, reviewer Molly Horan inducts herself into the Cult.
