When the Party Down revival was announced, fans were saddened to know that Lizzy Caplan wouldn’t return to play aspiring comedic actor and Henry’s on-and-off girlfriend, Casey. But, now it’s been announced that there are some pretty exciting names joining the cast: Jennifer Garner, James Marsden, Zoë Chao, and Tyrel Jackson Williams.

Who are the new cast members added to the Party Down revival?

Jennifer Garner as Evie

With Casey gone, Henry (Adam Scott) needed a new love interest. Evie is “a successful producer of studio franchise movies, who, in the wake of a breakup, is reconsidering her life choices. A fledging relationship with Henry Pollard becomes a way for her to explore possible new directions.”

James Marsden as Jack Botty

It was about time for Marsden to play a character with a silly name again. Jack Botty is “an actor who plays the lead in a popular superhero franchise” who “enjoys his life, his fame, and being the center of everyone’s attention.” It’s also said that Botty will be a key recurring character.

Zoë Chao as Lucy

Chao is donning the pink bow tie, working alongside Ron Donald and the rest of the crew. She’s described as a “passionate, outspoken, free-thinking creative ‘food artist’” who wants to become a celebrity chef but she’s “stuck cranking out hors d’oeuvres at Party Down without the resources to do anything more ambitious.”

Tyrel Jackson Williams as Sackson

Sackson is a “handsome, confident, driven, wannabe influencer/internet personality” who is “knowledgeable and savvy about his specific niche, but a bit lost in every other aspect of life.” It’s unclear how Jackson Williams’ character plays into the show, and if he’ll be the one hiring Party Down to cater his party or donning the uniform with Lucy.

Garner, Mardsen, Chao and Williams will all join the show’s returning stars Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Jane Lynch, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen, and Megan Mullally.

STARZ has yet to announce a premiere date for Party Down’s return.

The more I think about it, the more the entire thing will hinge on how much in-universe time has passed since the original show.  Having everyone but Lizzy Caplan still be at Party Down over a decade later would just feel sad, unless they’ve got a damn good reason for it.

I agree. I kind of don’t want to see all these characters still as failures, now well past the point where they’re likely to make any of their aspirations come true. Ron Donald deserves his Soup ‘R Crackers.

I imagine that people hang on to “the dream” in Hollywood for far too long, but one thing that’s getting tiring about these revivals is how damn miserable everyone is.

There is no happy version of Henry being at Party Down, no matter how much time has passed. If very little time has passed, his renewed confidence in his acting abilities still didn’t land him anything worth quitting catering over. If significant time has passed, at best he got himself a substantial role that led to him being immediately recognizable for a second thing that didn’t last, and he came back to the one career that would take him back. Either way, no, we’re not having fun yet.

oh I thought Jennifer Garner only acted in commercials

I was wondering what she’d even been in recently and, as it turns out, it’s pretty much nothing but DTV garbage for nearly a decade now. Also a lot of weird, indie-ish films I’ve never heard of with absolutely stacked casts. Like, I’ve never remotely heard of 2015’s Danny Collins in any way shape or form, and yet it was apparently nominated for a GG and stars De Niro, Annette Benning, Christopher Plummer, and Bobby fuckin’ Canavale? Does anyone remember this movie? Or how about 2018’s A Happening of Monumental Proportions co-starring Bradley Whitford, Common, and Allison Janney? Looking at her filmography is like looking into an alternate universe because I’ve only heard of a single film she’s made since 2014—Love, Simon, which I vaguely remember seeing on a streaming service at some point but know nothing about.

There’s a whole series of alternate entertainment and other business universes to the ones we’re used to where people can make serious bank.https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/annehelenpetersen/jennifer-garners-good-girl-image-has-become-her-business

I mean it could be worse, she could be Jessica Alba, a famously terrible actress who started an incredibly successful company called “Honest” that was supposed to be honest about using natural ingredients…then got busted for lying and using garbage but somehow didn’t just go out of business, which is pretty depressing.

On the one hand, “Yay, more Party Down!”On the other hand, I said that about the Veronica Mars reboot, which turned out to be soooooooooo bad.

Could an updated picture of Tyrel not be found? He’s in his 20s with locs and in that picture,he looks like he did when he was on Disney Channel.

I think Zoe Chao/Chloe Zhao is the new generation’s Dylan McDermott/Dermot Mulroney.

  • foghat1981-av says:

Wow that looks like an old pic of Tyrel Jackson Williams.  He was great on Brockmire, but this looks like it was from prior to that.  looks like a little kid!

There will come a day when I see the name “James Marsden” and don’t immediately think, “Oh, cool, Spike’s in it.”Today wasn’t that day.

I’ve got my fingers crossed hoping that they bring back J.K. Simmons as the kindly film producer Leonard Stiltskin

Man, going from Lizzy Caplan to Jennifer Garner is…rough.

  • capeo-av says:

A Party Down revival without Casey (Caplan) being there is something that shouldn’t happen. If it’s not possible due to scheduling, or an actor just not wanting to to do it, then just let it stand as the great, and influential past series that it was.
