Jeopardy! contestant somehow confuses Uncle Cracker for Kid Cudi

Aux Features Jeopardy

You have to be really, really smart to go on Jeopardy!, but, hey, there’s gaps in everyone’s knowledge. Nobody here’s knocking you for not knowing who Uncle Kracker and Kid Cudi are. We will, however, raise an eyebrow at the level of confidence with which a recent Jeopardy! contestant answered “Kid Cudi” for a question about an “avuncular fellow” who used to be Kid Rock’s DJ. Even faced with a picture of the “Follow Me” singer, the contestant seems absolutely positive that she’s looking at Kanye’s Kids See Ghosts cohort.

The “Kid” connection is the likely culprit here, though you’d think the nod to the artist’s “avuncularity” might have tipped them off. Still, it made for a great moment of television that even Cudi himself could appreciate. He responded to a clip on Twitter with some suitable emojis.

This makes confusing Jack White for Eminem seem almost reasonable.

It’s been so long since I even thought of Uncle Cracker I thought to myself “Didn’t his name start with a K?” Then I remembered I don’t care enough about Uncle Cracker to actually Google the answer.

Sadly, i did care enough – not about Uncle Kracker, but about the dumb spelling of his dumb name – to consult his Wikipedia page, which has 0 instances of “Cracker”.

    Same difference.

This was hilarious but to be fair:I’ve been told by a couple former Jeopardy! contestants that any pictures/videos are in a tiny television just at the corner of the studio. They still don’t look a thing alike and “avuncular” should’ve given it away, but I remember something like this happening previously and being told that answer.

She didn’t confuse one person for another.Being unfamiliar with both, but knowing that the correct response would be a short-and-silly name, she pulled the wrong one.For anyone familiar with both, it’s a funny-ish confusion, but… geez. Also, for a piece that mocks someone for not knowing all of pop culture’s silly-named people, should you have maybe double-checked the spelling of the relevant silly names?

This really did happen, then. It wasn’t just my imagination.

To be fair, if I was ever a DJ for Kid Rock I would try to assume Kid Cudi’s identity.

I’d never heard of nor seen these two before today. Different people have different interactions and histories with pop culture.

Who is Kid Cudi? Seriously, I have no clue who that is.
